Air Force and Colorado College meet Oct. 29-30

This Week: Air Force (1-3-0 overall) plays a pair of games against Colorado College (1-3-2 overall). The Falcons and Tigers meet at the Cadet Ice Arena Friday, Oct. 29, at 7:05 pm and at Robson Arena on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 6:05 pm.
Pikes Peak Trophy: The Pikes Peak Trophy, named in honor of the late John Matchefts, was jointly created in 2013 by Air Force and Colorado College and is awarded annually to the winner of the CC-Air Force game/series. Matchefts, who served stints as head coach for both Air Force (1974-85) and Colorado College (1966-71), is a member of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. Matchefts led Air Force to 151 wins, the second most in school history.
Since the Trophy's inception in 2013, the Falcons have won it four times (2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017) and retained it once (2015). Colorado College has won it twice (2018 and 2019).
Air Force won the first two trophies with a 3-1 win over Colorado College at the World Arena in 2013 and a 3-1 win over the Tigers at the Cadet Ice Arena in 2014. In 2015, the teams played twice with each team winning 4-3 on home ice. As a result of the split, the Falcons retained the Trophy. In 2016, Air Force won the Trophy with a 6-3 win at World Arena. In 2017, Air Force defeated the Tigers, 6-3, at the Academy. CC won the trophy for the first time with a 6-1 win over Air Force at the Broadmoor World Arena in 2018. The last time the teams played was 2019, when CC won both games.
Earlier This Season vs. CC: Senior goalie Alex Schilling made 29 saves to lead Air Force to a 2-1 win over Colorado College in an exhibition game, Oct. 2, at Robson Arena.
Colorado College struck first with a power-play goal by Logan Will just 1:17 into the game. Air Force tied the game early in the second period on the rush. Parker Brown scored from Clayton Cosentino at 2:09. The Falcons took a 2-1 lead at 16:36 when Jacob Marti scored with a shot from the left point. Colorado College outshot Air Force, 30-25, in the game. Air Force was 0-for-1 on the power play while CC was 1-for-3. Air Force blocked 23 shots in the game.
About the Tigers: Colorado College is 1-3-2 overall this season after splitting a pair of games on the road last weekend. The Tigers defeated No. 10 Boston College, 5-3, for the team's first win of the season. The trip ended with a 1-0 loss at No. 20 Northeastern. Logan Will leads the team with four points while Jordan Biro leads the team with two goals. Dominic Basse has started all six games in goal and has a 1.99 GAA and a .923 saves percentage. Colorado College has four seniors and 19 of the 28 players are either freshmen or sophomores under first-year head coach Kris Mayotte.
