USAFA, Colo.- Air Force found itself back in the win column on Saturday, taking down the visiting Cal State Fullerton Titans by a score of 67-59.
The Falcons were guided by their veteran players, as Riley Snyder managed a game-high 18 points. Snyder finished the day 4-9 from the field, including 2-5 from long range. The senior was also a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line.
Fellow C1C's Briana Autrey-Thompson and Cierra Winters posted nearly identical stat lines with both ending their respective afternoons with 14 points. Haley Jones was again a crucial piece down low, hauling in a team-high nine rebounds to go with her seven points.
Air Force's defense never allowed Cal State Fullerton to find its comfort zone, as the Falcons forced 21 turnovers by way of 14 steals. Chris Gobrecht's team outpaced the Titans, with Air Force creating 18 fast-break points compared to just three for the visitors. The Falcons were also much more efficient offensively, cutting down on surrendered possessions while shooting 40.4% from the field (21-52).
A back-and-forth affair early on, the Falcons took a 29-26 lead into the halftime break. Coming out of the locker room, the Falcons began to separate. Air Force shot 8-16 in the third quarter, building a lead as large as 46-37 before the quarter closed.
The Falcons continued to knock down shots as the fourth quarter opened. Leading 49-43 with with 8:34 left in the game, a Winters layup and a Snyder three-pointer on back-to-back possessions ballooned the home team's lead to 11 points. Jo Huntimer chipped in with a steal that eventually turned into two free throws for Snyder, who connected on both to give Air Force its biggest lead of the afternoon at 56-43 with six and a half minutes to go.
The Titans were able to cut the deficit to as close as seven, but Air Force never allowed for their lead to diminish. The Falcons closed the ballgame making 14 of 17 free throw attempts in the final quarter.
The Falcons will be on the road for Thanksgiving, as the Falcons next prepare for a service academy matchup at Army on November 24. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 am MT.
