Air Force Unable To Complete Rally In 21-14 Overtime Setback to Army

Air Force football (6-3) fell to Army (5-3) 21-14 in overtime Saturday in a Commander-in-Chief's trophy game at the Lockheed Martin Commander's Classic at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

The Falcons rallied back from a 14-3 deficit to tie the game up at 14-14 on a Matt Dapore 30 yard field goal with 23 records in regulation.

Army scored on their first overtime possession, recovering a fumbled ball in the end zone for the score. Air Force was unable to convert on fourth-down from the six yard line to close out the game.

After a scoreless first half of play, Army scored a touchdown in the third quarter to take an early lead. Dapore hit a career-long 39 yard field goal on the ensuing drive to make it at 7-3 ballgame with six minutes to play in the third.

Army came right back with 79-yard touchdown pass on a wheel route down the right sideline to go up 14-3.

Air Force made it a 14-11 game after wide receiver Dane Kinamon scored on a four-yard pass from quarterback Haaziq Daniels and running back DeAndre Hughes ran in the two-point conversion.

Daniels completed 13 of 22 passes for 226 yards, all career high's. The Falcons had three receivers set career-high's for yardage. Senior Brandon Lewis hauled in five catches for 106 yards. Kinamon had four catches for 66 yards and junior David Cormier had 53 on three catches.

Fullback Brad Roberts led the Falcons on the ground with 68 yards on 18 carries. Daniels added 54 yards on 15 carries.

Air Force held Army, which ranked second in the nation in rushing behind the Falcons, to just 108 yards on the ground. The Black Knights threw for 214 yards however. Quarterback Christian Anderson threw for 175 yards.

Defensively, safety Trey Taylor led Air Force with 11 tackles and linebacker TD Blackmon added eight stops. Junior linebacker Vince Sanford also had three tackles for loss.

Air Force returns to action next Saturday, Nov. 13, at Colorado State. Kickoff is 5 pm MT in up in Fort Collins. The game will be televised by CBS Sports.
