RENO, Nev.- The Mountain West portion of Air Force's schedule didn't initiate as hoped, as the Falcons couldn't catch up to the Nevada Wolfpack in Tuesday's 67-52 loss.
Dasha Macmillan shot the basketball with confidence, leading Air Force with 13 points. Rewriting her personal scoring best, Macmillan did so going 6-8 from the field while making shots at all levels of the offensive floor. Cierra Winters was the other Falcon to post double-figures, managing 13 points on 71% shooting.
Air Force was effective in spurts, but the Falcons weren't consistently able to corral the Nevada offense. The Wolfpack ended the night shooting 54%, including 61% in the second half.
The Falcons did jump out to an early lead, controlling most of a first quarter that concluded with a 13-11 Air Force lead. However, Nevada began to sway the momentum of the game. The Wolfpack's desire to attack the paint and draw fouls proved effective, as the home side outscored the Falcons 29-15 in a span of 13 minutes following the first quarter.
Trailing 40-28 with just under six minutes left in the third quarter, Air Force made a move. A Kamri Heath and-one ignited the away bench, leading to a Winters three-pointer and a pair of Briana Autrey-Thompson baskets to suddenly trim the deficit to 40-38. The Falcons had even managed to make it a one-point game after a Macmillan triple saw the Wolfpack lead shrink to 42-41.
However, after Macmillan's three-pointer, the Falcons ended the evening shooting 4-13, only scoring seven points in the final quarter.
Next, Air Force stays out west, traveling to Utah State to play the Aggies on New Year's Eve. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm MT.
