Garrett Braunton to Compete at Winter Cup Challenge

The freshman will open competition in Indianapolis on Friday, Feb. 26.
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Freshman Garrett Braunton (Olympia, Wash.) will represent the Air Force men's gymnastics team this weekend at the prestigious Winter Cup Challenge in Indianapolis. The two-day competition, which begins on Friday, Feb. 26, will be held at the Indiana Convention Center.
Braunton, a former competitor at the Junior World Championships, is a six-time Junior Olympic national champion (2015, 2016, 2019 still rings; 2015, 2019 floor exercise; 2014 all-around) and six-time JO runner-up. He also claimed first-place honors at the 2019 U.S. Gymnastics Championships (still rings) and 2017 P&G Championships (floor exercise, still rings, all-around) as a club gymnast at Cypress Academy. This season, Braunton won the high bar at annual Rocky Mountain Open and accounted for the ninth-best vault score in program history (14.350) at the All-Academy Championships.
He is the 15th Falcon to earn a Winter Cup bid since 2004, joining Jeff Andersen (2004), Denis Aurelius (2015), Tory Brown (2010, 2011, 2012), Gared Chapman (2013, 2015), Nick Gaudlip (2014, 2015), Nash Mills (2010, 2011, 2012), James Okamoto (2011), Mac Ritchie (2013), Chris Stephenson (2014), Greg Stine (2007), Joel Uptmor (2010), Frankie Valentin (2020) and Timmy Wang (2014, 2016, 2017).

This year's Winter Cup, where the Junior and Senior National Teams will be named, is a qualifying event for the upcoming U.S. Gymnastics Championships, where gymnasts will look to advance to the Olympic Team Trials this summer. Due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic, events will not be open to the public.
Winter Cup sessions will be available to stream on NBC, NBCSN and FloGymnastics.
