UNLV Escapes Air Force, 52-49

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The UNLV Lady Rebels squeaked by Air Force, 52-49, in the first of a two-game series, Friday evening in Clune Arena. Air Force dropped to 4-10 overall with a 2-7 mark in the Mountain West while UNLV improved to 9-7, 7-4 MW.
The Falcons led the Lady Rebels in scoring for over 30 minutes, giving up the lead with 30 seconds remaining in the third quarter only to take it back in the final seconds of the quarter. Air Force held the lead for most of the fourth quarter, but UNLV fought back as their shooting improved to 45-percent from the floor in the final 10 minutes, assuming the lead with just 30 seconds remaining. The Lady Rebels fended off an Air Force attack down to the wire to secure the win.
Senior forward Kassady Huffman had a career night as she blocked seven shots, setting the single-game record for blocked shots in the Division I era. With her first block of the game, Huffman denied her 96th shot, taking the seat as the program's leader in career blocks in the Division I era. The native of Colorado Springs rounded out her stat line with seven rebounds, four points and a career-best four steals.
Junior forward Riley Snyder led Air Force in scoring with 17 points on the night. Junior teammate Cierra Winters finished the game with a career-high 15 points with two boards, two assists and a steal.
Air Force senior Emily Conroe snagged a game-high nine assists and teammate Kaelin Immel was good for four points, four assists and four rebounds.
The Falcons were narrowly out-rebounded by the taller Lady Rebels, 47-45, but snagged more than doubled their steals, 10-4.
UNLV was led by Desi-Rae Young's 15 points and nine rebounds.
