UNLV Tops Air Force, 68-57

USAF ACADEMY – Air Force dropped a 68-57 contest to UNLV Sunday afternoon in Clune Arena. Air Force dropped to 4-11 overall with a 2-8 record in the Mountain West while UNLV improved to 10-7, 8-4 MW.
UNLV got off to a hot start, building an 18-point lead in the first eight minutes of play. The Lady Rebels could not miss early on, shooting a stellar 91-percent from the field in the opening 10 minutes (10-11).
The Falcons, who trailed the entirety of the game, came as close as six points to the UNLV lead on back-to-back three-pointers from Nikki McDonald. Air Force was unable to reel the Lady Rebels in by the end of regulation.
Air Force was led by seniors Kaelin Immel and Emily Conroe who scored 13 and 12 points, respectively. Conroe snagged a team-high nine rebounds and dished out four assists. Immel rounded out her stat line with two boards and two steals.
Junior point guard Briana Autrey-Thompson, who leads the Mountain West in steals, picked off five on the game while also dishing out a game-high eight assists. She contributed six points to the final tally.
Kassady Huffman, the program's career blocks leader, rejected three shots on the night. The Colorado Springs native also grabbed eight rebounds and dished three assists.
The Falcons helped UNLV to 20 turnovers on the day, picking off 14 steals from the Lady Rebels. The Falcons committed 12 turnovers and collected 33 rebounds to UNLV's 41.
The Lady Rebels were led by Nia Johnson's 17 points on 70-percent shooting from the floor. Delaynie Byrne registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Next up, Air Force hits the road for its last two road games of the regular season campaign, taking on Fresno State on February 10 and 11, in Fresno, California. Tip times for both games are slated for 6 p.m. PT.
