
Air Force Takes on Incarnate Word in Midweek Match

Air Force travels to San Antonio, Texas, to take on Incarnate Word at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium, Wednesday (March 31), at noon CT.
THE SERIES
The Falcons and Cardinals will be meeting for the seventh time in program history with Air Force remaining unbeaten in the six-game series. Last season, Air Force outscored UIW, 3-1, in San Antonio.
LAST TIME THEY MET
The Air Force men's soccer team battled back from a one-nil deficit to top the Cardinals of Incarnate Word, 3-1, Friday evening (Oct. 4, 2019) in San Antonio, Texas.
Lathan Spadafora led the Falcons with a goal on three shots in 75 minutes of action. The Falcons outshot their third-straight opponent, taking 10 shots to UIW's nine, seven of which were on goal. Tristan Trager recorded two shots, both coming on frame.
A staunch Air Force defense anchored by London Aghedo, Jared Dove and Tyler Johnson, who logged 90 minutes of play each, put the shackles on the Cardinals offense while allowing the Falcon offense a chance to spread their wings. Sophomore keeper Kainoa Likewise earned his third career win in the victory, making three saves on the night.
The Cardinals lit the scoreboard in the 16th minute as Jonathon Diaz assisted Kevin Gutia with the early strike. It was the last time they experienced the gleeful joy of a goal for the night.
The Air Force equalizer came in the 42nd minute as Garrett Miyaoka assisted Spadafora with the strike. The teams entered the locker room at the half knotted at one with Incarnate Word holding a slight advantage in shots, 5-4.
The Falcons returned to the pitch on a mission as Air Force took the lead in the 65th minute via Johnson's first collegiate goal in an unassisted attack. In the 82nd minute, the Falcons added an insurance goal as a foul with the keeper's box yielded Air Force a penalty kick. Quinn Matulis was called to the line where the native of Oak Park, California, got the ball past the 6-4 sophomore keeper.

Air Force dropped a 3-1 match to UT-Rio Grande Valley in Western Athletic Conference action, Friday afternoon (March 26) at the UTRGV Soccer Complex. The Falcons drop to 1-4-1 in the league following their fourth-straight loss, while UTRGV remains unbeaten at 4-0-2.
Freshman forward Thaddaeus Dewing was Air Force's lone goal-scorer, connecting with Lathan Spadafora and Nick Bourgeois for a goal in the 87th minute. The goal marked his second of the season while Bourgeois and Spadafora were credited with their first assists of the season.
The Vaquero's William Akio notched a match-high two goals including one from a penalty kick in the 81st minute. UTRGV's Reshaun Walkes was the first to light the scoreboard via an assist from Elyad Shojaei in the 39th minute.
Air Force out-shot UTRGV, 14-10, but took half as many shots on goal, 6-3. The Falcons were the aggressors in the first half taking five shots to the Vaquero's two. Michael Neacsu, Giuliano Daniel and Dewing took two shot attempts each to lead Air Force in shooting on the match.
Jared Dove and Kainoa Likewise registered 90 minutes of action for the Air Force defense. Likewise made three saves on the day.
