Falcons Head to California for West Coast Relays

Air Force will face 23 teams at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis on Friday, April 30.
The Air Force track and field team heads to Clovis, Calif., this week to compete at the West Coast Relays. The April 30 meet will be held at Veteran Memorial Stadium – site of next month's Mountain West Outdoor Championships.
MEET INFORMATION
The West Coast Classic, hosted by Fresno State, will be held at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis and feature athletes from 24 collegiate teams – including a majority of the Falcons' conference opponents. A complete schedule of events is listed below. Attendance will be limited to 33-percent capacity at Veterans Memorial Stadium, but the hammer throw will take place on Fresno State's campus and spectators are not permitted. FloTrack will broadcast the meet via its FloPro subscription service, while live results will be provided through Record Timing (direct links to both video and results can be found on the team's schedule page at GoAirForceFalcons.com).

7:30 a.m.: 10,000-Meter Run; 10:00 a.m.: Javelin Throw; 11:00 a.m.: Pole Vault; 11:00 a.m.: Long Jump; 11:00 a.m.: High Jump; 1:00 p.m.: Shot Put; 2:00 p.m.: 4x100-Meter Relay; 2:00 p.m.: Triple Jump; 2:30 p.m.: 110-/100-Meter Hurdles, followed by 400-Meter Dash, 100-Meter Dash, 800-Meter Run; 4:00 p.m.: Discus Throw; 4:20 p.m.: 400-Meter Hurdles, followed by 200-Meter Dash, 4x400-Meter Relay, 1500-Meter Run, 3000-Meter Steeplechase, 1500-Meter Run (invitational), 5000-Meter Run, 3000-Meter Steeplechase (invitational), Women's 800-Meter Run (invitational), 5000-Meter Run (invitational). Men will compete first in all events.
AIR FORCE IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Two Falcons are listed among the nation's Top 25, as Mitch Lipe is ranked 18th in the pole vault (17'8½") and Mahala Norris is 24th in the 1500-meter run (4:15.98). In addition, Sam Gilman is listed within the Top 30, holding 26th in the 1500-meter run (3:40.39).
SQUAD GOALS
Two Air Force teams are ranked within the top four of this week's USTFCCCA #EventSquad rankings – which are determined by using the cumulative season-best marks from a team's top four athletes on the national descending order list. Wyatt Murphy, Braeden Holcombe, Tyler Gurchiek and Brian Hubbard have combined for 25,469 points – the second-highest total in the country, while the men's pole vault quartet of Mitch Lipe, Greg Skage, Ethan Gardner and Ryan Brown have amassed the nation's fourth-best clearance at 68'5½".
THREE FALCONS CLAIM WEEKLY MOUNTAIN WEST AWARDS
For the second time in as many weeks, Air Force claimed three of the four weekly Mountain West Athlete of the Week awards on April 27. Sam Gilman repeated as the Men's Track honoree, while Mahala Norris (Women's Track) and Hayden Bullock (Men's Field) captured the first honors of their career.
COMING UP
Air Force closes out the regular season next Friday (May 7), when it hosts its annual Twilight Open at the Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex. At the conclusion of the meet, which is slated to get underway at 2:00 p.m. (MT), the Falcons will recognize the Class of 2021 during their Senior Day Celebration.
