Air Force Drops 15-13 Contest Against Mercer

USAF ACADEMY - A dominant fourth quarter by Mercer pushed the Bears past the Falcons, 15-13, in a Southern Conference matchup, Saturday afternoon, at Falcon Stadium. Air Force drops to 2-6 overall with a 1-1 mark in the league while Mercer improved to 4-5, 1-1 SOCON.
Air Force led Mercer for the first three quarters, maintaining as much as a three-goal lead heading into the fourth quarter. Three minutes into the fourth, the Bears found their rhythm and rattled off six unanswered goals in 12 minutes. Air Force was unable to mount a response, finally scoring a goal with just 16 seconds remaining. The Bears held a two-goal advantage as the Falcons ran out of real estate, sealing the deal at 15-13.
Air Force took a season-high 51 shots on the game and were perfect in clearing the ball (9-9). The Falcon defense put the Bears to task who struggled to clear the ball at times; they were 11-16 in clears on the game.
Air Force junior Brenden Crouse had a career day in the effort, scoring a personal-best four goals and two assists for a career-high six-point showing. He fired off 11 shots on the game. Freshman teammate Aidan Tolen registered his second hat trick this season, scoring three goals on nine shots, eight of which were on goal.
Junior midfielder August Johnson and sophomore attack man Brand Dodd put up a pair of goals apiece. Dodd added a pair of assists to his stat line. Seniors Matthew O'Rourk and Sterling Ceshker rounded out the scoring for the Falcons with a goal each.
Dylan Frankhouser had a .500 day at the face off X, winning 14-of-28 attempts. His counterpart, Ashton Wood, won 16-of-31 attempts for the Bears. Senior goalie Braden Host recorded nine saves in the loss.
Mercer was led by Taylor Dooley's four goals and a pair of assists. Kyle Cox was their second-most prolific scorer with a hat trick. The Bears' keeper, Collin Kelley, snagged 14 saves to win the game.
Next up, the Falcons hit the road to take on Jacksonville in SOCON action on Saturday, April 10. Action is slated for noon ET at D.B. Milne Field. The Falcons leads the Dolphins in the nine-game series, 7-2.
