Mahala Norris and Sam Gilman led the Falcons in the 1500-meter races at Cobb Track.
STANFORD, Calif. – Senior Mahala Norris clocked the second-fastest time in Academy history and sophomore Sam Gilman led Air Force to a 1-2 finish, as four 1500-meter runners wrapped up action at the Stanford Invitational this afternoon (April 3) at Cobb Field.
Norris, competing in her first outdoor race since the conference championships in 2019, clocked a career-best time of 4:18.69 to finish fifth in the 26-runner event and jump from eighth to second on the program's all-time standings at the 1500-meter distance . The senior deleted more than eight seconds off her previous best during the run.
Gilman and freshman Cole Lindhorst posted a sweep of the top-two spots in the men's 1500-meter race, as Gilman swung to the outside and used a late push to edge Lindhorst for the win. Gilman, in his first outdoor race at the collegiate level, posted a time of 3:45.53 to debut in 11th on the Academy's all-time standings, while Lindhorst posted a debut of 3:46.89 to enter the all-time standings at 19th. Senior Scott Johnson, in his first outdoor race since May 2019, also placed within the top half of the field, as he posted a time of 3:49.41 to finish seventh.
Air Force returns to action with a pair of meets next weekend. The multi-event athletes travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the annual Jim Click Decathlon on April 8-9, while the rest of the team travels to Boulder for the Colorado Invitational on April 9-10.
