CORVALLIS – Air Force was unable to dig out of an early deficit, falling to 16th-ranked Oregon State, 4-1, in a Monday evening match up at Paul Lorenz Field. The Falcons drop to 0-2 on the season while the Beavers remain unbeaten at 2-0.
Oregon State was the aggressor for the majority of the match, outshooting Air Force 15-4 (8-1), allowing the Falcons just two shots in each half.
The Beavers' Tsiki Ntsabeleng was a man on fire, making the first strike in of the match in the 13th minute, then following up with an assist to Tyrone Mondi for State's second goal in the 33rd minute. The Falcons took to the halftime locker room trailing by two goals.
Ten minutes into the second half, Ntsabeleng struck again via assists from Mondi and Adrian Molina-Diaz. Ntsabeleng finished his highlight performance assisting Mouhameth Thiam in the Beaver's fourth goal in the 72nd minute.
Air Force, determined to prevent a second shutout on opening week, pushed hard to Oregon State's defensive third until a foul yielded a free kick from roughly 30 yards out. Senior team captain Giuliano Daniel expertly serviced the ball deep into the box where sophomore Federico Mion received and redirected to the back right corner of the net, marking his first career goal as a Falcon.
Daniel and teammate London Aghedo logged 90 minutes of action on the pitch, the only two defensemen to clock every minute so far this season. Kainoa Likewise recorded four saves in his second loss this season.
Next up, the Falcons wrap up the road stint with a match against SIU-Edwardsville, Friday, September 3. It will be Air Force's only match for the weekend. Following Friday's meeting, the Falcons will open up Cadet Soccer Stadium and a four-game home stint.
