Rally Falls Short For Falcons In 62-56 Game at Boise State

BOISE, IDAHO - Air Force men's basketball (8-7, 1-3 MW) fell 62-56 to Boise State (13-4, 4-0 MW) Tuesday night in Mountain West play at ExtraMile Arena. Junior forward Nikc Jackson led the team with 17 points and six rebounds.
Trailing by 13 with just under five minutes to play, the Falcons went on a 12-1 run to cut the Boise lead to two at 58-56 with 28 seconds left in the game. The rally was quelled after Boise State made its last four free throws to close out the game.
Jackson led the Falcons with his second consecutive game in double-figures scoring, notching the 17 points in just 21 minutes off the bench. Jackson was 6 of 7 from the field and attempted a career-high eight free throws. Guards AJ Walker and Ethan Taylor added nine points each. Guard Jake Heidbreder added three assists.
Trailing by double digits just minutes into the game, the Falcons mounted several rallies against the Broncos to keep it close.
The Falcons found themselves down by double-digits just five minutes in as Boise State came out the gates on fire, making their first five shots from the field. The Broncos went up 14 points with 11:38 in the half.
Air Force rallied back with some lockdown defense and finished with an 18-7 run to close the gap to three at 29-26 at the half. During the run, the Falcons held Boise State scoreless for 7:47 with a 9-0 scoring advantage during that spell.
Boise State once again got up by double-digits in the second half before the Falcons came storming back.
Air Force held Boise State to its fewest points at home since 2012. The Falcons also out-rebounded the second-best rebounding team in the conference 26-24. Unfortunately, the Falcons committed 20 turnovers and shot just 43 percent from the free throw line.
Forward Tyson Degenhart led Boise State, which won its 10th straight game, with 19 points. Guard Emmanuel Akot added 12 points on four three-point baskets.
The Falcons return to action Thursday, Jan. 20, hosting UNLV. Tip time is 7 pm MT and the game will be streamed on the Mountain West Network courtesy of FalconVision.
