COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- Without a handful of players due to health and safety protocols, the Falcons overcame a short bench in today's 58-46 win, as Riley Snyder turned in a star performance while making history along the way.
Snyder managed 19 points, as she was 50% from the field (8-16), also adding five rebounds and a couple of steals to her stat line. With her 19 points, Snyder (1,390 career points) passed Raimee Beck (1,386 career points) to jump to 6th all-time on the program's overall scoring list, while becoming the second all-time scorer in Air Force's Division I history. Snyder now trails only Kaelin Immel (1,531 career points) in regards to program Division I scoring.
Cierra Winters again crafted a solid day at the office, scoring 12 points to go with three assists and three steals. Winters has now recorded 10+ points in 10-consecutive games. Running the point, Jo Huntimer led Air Force with six assists, while Nikki McDonald was asked to shoulder a heavy load underneath the rim, pulling down a team-best eight rebounds.
The Falcon offense did well to create good looks at the basket, shooting 46% on the day, including 40% from behind the three-point line. This afternoon's overall shooting as well as three-point percentages were the second-highest rates posted by Air Force thus far during the 2021-22 season.
In spite of missing key players, Air Force ran away from San Jose State late in the first quarter. The Falcons trailed 10-7 at the 4:05 mark of the opening period, but home team put together a 12-0 run to close the quarter to take a 19-10 lead into the following frame. The Spartans were never able to trim the lead to less than nine points, as the Falcons led by as many as 17 in the middle of the third quarter. Chris Gobrecht's team owned the lead for nearly 35 minutes, with San Jose State coming only as close as 11 points over the course of the second-half.
Next, Air Force will make up its previously postponed matchup with the Nevada Wolfpack on Monday, January 24. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 pm MT.
