The Falcons and Bulldogs meet for the first time in program history, Saturday afternoon at Beirne Stadium.
DOING NUMBERS
Air Force senior Brenden Crouse leads the Falcons with 21 goals and six assists for 27 points this season. He put up two goals at No. 1 Virginia in the season opener. He followed up with a career-best six goals at No. 12 Denver. He is on a 10-game goal streak dating back to his four-goal showing against VMI last season (Apr. 17). Last week he put up a stellar eight points (4G, 4A) in the routing of Marist.
Falcon attackman Brandon Dodd showed out against Marist last weekend, scoring a season-best six goals with an assist. The big guy (6'3", 220) is one of Air Force's most prolific facilitators, both in goals (15) and assists (5).
IN CAGE
Air Force junior goalie Jason Rose averages 13 saves per games so far this season. He put up a personal best 18 saves against No. 12 Denver (Feb. 12) and 14 saves against back-to-back champs No. 1 Virginia, in the season opener. He boasts a .500 save percentage heading into the weekend.
D-UP
Falcon linchpin defender Quentin Carlile, a preseason All-ASUN selection, leads the squad with nine caused turnovers and 18 ground balls. Carlile, the team captain, is assisted by Air Force sophomore standouts Chris Bardak and James Chastain. Bardak has nine CTs to his credit, and when the trio is on the field together, they are good for a .700 clear percentage.
AT THE X
Falcon co-team captain Brian Michael has taken the majority of attempts this season, winning 42-of-94 (.447). He came out on top in the last two meetings, winning 11-of-19 against Marist and an impressive 8-of-11 against Canisius. He has 19 ground balls to his credit.
INJURY REPORT
Air Force's shifty attacking mid Ethan Grandolfo sustained a significant knee injury against Jacksonville on February 27. Prior to his injury, he led the Falcons in career scoring and had a team best assist count.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Air Force continues action on the road as they travel to Macon, Georgia, to take on ex-SOCON foe Mercer on Saturday, March 19. The Falcons are 8-2 against the Bears in the all-time series; however, Mercer won two of the last three, both at the Academy.
LAST WEEK
Air Force concluded a three-game home stint on a high note, routing Marist, 17-8, Saturday afternoon (March 5) at Falcon Stadium. Junior attack Brandon Dodd and senior teammate Brenden Crouse lit the field up, totaling 10 goals and five assists between the two of them. Dodd put up a career-best six goals along with an assist. Crouse, the Falcons' leading scorer this season, tallied a game-high eight points via four goals and four assists.
The Falcon defense anchored by Quentin Carlile, James Chastain, and Chris Bardak, held Marist to just two goals per quarter, causing 5-of-12 turnovers between the three of them. Bardak had a game-high three CTs to his credit.
