Gilman earned second-team status following a 14th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Air Force junior Sam Gilman captured second-team All-America honors this evening (March 11) at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Alabama after placing 14th in the 5000-meter run.
Gilman, an All-American in cross country this fall, picked up second-team status at the indoor championship after running to a 13:52.34 finish in the NCAA 5000-meter final. Clocking the third-fastest time of his career, Gilman became the fourth Falcon in as many years to earn All-America honors in that event at the indoor championship meet.
The only Mountain West athlete to qualify on the men's side of the NCAA Indoor Championships, Gilman had a remarkable indoor campaign, setting Academy Records in every distance he raced – the mile, 3000-meter run, 5000-meter run, and as the anchor of the record-setting distance medley relay. He also claimed conference titles in the mile and distance medley relay, while helping the men to the team title at the 2022 MW Indoor Championships.
With the indoor season now complete, Gilman and his teammates turn their attention outdoors. Air Force kicks off the second half of the 2022 campaign this weekend (March 18-19), when they travel to Boulder for the Jerry Quiller Classic.
