Gabriel Garcia's three-run home run in the 1st was a prelude for the remainder of his evening. Along with a three-run homer in his first at-bat, Garcia collected a pair of singles on the way to a 3-4 night.
Braydon Altorfer was 2-3 with a walk, while Trayden Tamiya finished 1-3 with a RBI single in the 6th. Blake Covin was 1-3 from the leadoff spot, scoring twice and stealing a base.
Kyle Moats made his second start of the season, lasting 2.1 innings. Moats' final line included five hits, four runs (three earned), one walk and one strikeout.
Rob Martin entered in relief of Moats in the 3rd, and gave the Falcons 2.2 innings out of the bullpen. After allowing a two-run homer in his initial inning of work, Martin settled in, surrendering just three hits while walking two and striking out two Bulldogs.
Ryan Stohr was given the loss after seeing Fresno State's Zach Morgan slug a tie-breaking solo homer in the 7th to give Fresno State a 7-6 lead, an advantage that was never relinquished.
After Garcia's three-run jack to give Air Force an early 3-0 lead, Fresno State eventually tallied six runs in the 3rd, with the Bulldogs launching a pair of two-run home runs in the inning.
The Falcons rallied over the course of the 5th and 6th innings, eventually tying the ballgame. After a Covin leadoff single and steal of second in the 5th inning, Garcia lined a single into left field while an error in the outfield allowed Covin to score.
In the 6th, Altorfer began the inning with a walk, and was moved over to second after Jay Thomason grounded out to the first baseman. Following Thomason, Chase Spencer singled into left field, though Altorfer was thrown out at home trying to score. Aerik Joe then popped up to second base, though the ball was misplayed by the second baseman allowing Spencer to score.
Now 6-5, Tamiya singled to short left field on the first pitch he saw, bring home Joe to score the tying run of the ballgame. However, the tie was short-lived, as the Bulldogs led off the 7th with a solo shot to retake a 7-6 lead.
Air Force had a golden opportunity to tie the game in the 8th, with Altorfer grounding a single past the shortstop to leadoff the frame. After two wild pitches, Altorfer reached third with still none out. The Falcons did not capitalize on the opportunity, striking out twice and flying out to end the inning.
Fresno State added an insurance run in the 8th, plating one after a two-out single. Trailing 8-6, the Falcons managed to put the go-ahead run at the plate in Paul Skenes, though he struck out looking to end the game.
Game Three between Air Force and Fresno State is scheduled for 2:00 pm MT on Sunday, April 3.
