SEATTLE – After trailing for 86 minutes the Falcons battled the third-ranked Washington Huskies to a draw at one behind an incredible strike in the 88th minute, handing the PAC 12 powerhouse their first non-winning result of the season. Air Force (0-3-2) wraps up an arduous five-game road stint on a high note with the draw. Washington, held to one goal for the first time this season, remains undefeated at 4-0-1.
The Falcons were put on their heels early as Ilijah Paul headed in the first goal just 67 seconds into the match. Lucas Meek and Chris Meyers were credited with the assist. The Falcons took just two shots on the game, one from Jake Angeletti in the 32nd minute and the other being the equalizer from Thaddaeus Dewing via touch from Remi Smith in the 88th minute. Dewing leads the Falcons with three goals this season.
Air Force's tenacity as a team was on full display, highlighted by an outstanding defensive effort to stave off a talented and aggressive Washington offense that put up 19 shots. Senior goalie John Byszewski played like a championship keeper, recording two crucial saves against penalty kicks to keep the Falcons alive.
Despite the absence of two key senior defenders in London Aghedo and Tyler Johnson— Air Force secured the draw behind incredible efforts from Matt Benson, Thaddaeus Dewing, Kobey Stoup, Federico Mion and Wills Burns who each clocked 90 minutes of hard-fought action on the pitch.
Next up, Air Force opens Cadet Soccer Stadium for the first time this season, hosting Bowling Green on Saturday, September 17. The match is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
