(Nov. 11, 2021) Air Force defeated Navy, 23-3, in Annapolis on the 20th anniversary of 9/11. Navy opened the scoring with a 23 yard field goal early in the second quarter. Air Force answered with the first of two Brad Roberts touchdown runs to take a 7-3 halftime lead. Haaziq Daniels scored on a 28-yard run late in the third quarter to make it 14-3. Following a safety, Roberts added his second TD run to make it 23-3 with 9:13 left. Roberts led the offense with 97 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries while Daniels added 51 yards and a score while hitting 3-10 passes for 49 yards. Air Force had 225 total yards, including 176 rushing. The story of the day, however, was the Air Force defense. The Falcons held Navy to just 68 total yards and six first downs. The Mids managed just one first down in the first three quarters. Air Force forced Navy to just 1-12 on third down, 1.1 yards per rush and 1.5 yards per play overall. TD Blackmon led the way with 11 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Demonte Meeks added nine tackles and a career-high two sacks.
THE LAST TIME IN FALCON STADIUM
(Oct. 3, 2020) Air Force defeated Navy, 40-7, in Falcon Stadium Oct. 3 in the season opener. Kicker Tevye Schuettpelz-Rohl opened the scoring with a career-best 48-yard field goal to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. Navy answered with a 73-yard touchdown connection from Tyger Gosling to Myles Fells early in the second quarter to take a 7-3 lead. Haaziq Daniels scored his first-career touchdown on Air Force's next drive to put the Falcons in front for good, 10-7. Schuettpelz-Rohl added two more field goals to make it 16-7 at the half. Following a school-record-tying fourth field goal by Schuettpelz-Rohl to open the second half, the Falcons added three fourth-quarter touchdown runs to make up the final margin. Air Force rushed for 369 yards and had 410 total yards. The defense held Navy to just 241 total yards, 90 yards rushing and 10 first downs. Timothy Jackson led the offense with 118 yards rushing while Brad Roberts added 103 yards and a touchdown in his first-career game. Daniels added 96 yards rushing and a score while hitting 4-9 passes for 41 yards. Senior George Silvanic led the defense with seven tackles and 1.5 sacks. Freshman Alec Mock added seven tackles and a sack. Grant Donaldson chipped in with six tackles.
COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF'S TROPHY
The 2022 season marks 51st year of Commander-in-Chief's trophy competition. The trophy goes annually to the winning academy with the best record in the round-robin competition. The winning team goes to the White House to receive the trophy from the President of the United States. The Falcons have a series-best 63-37 overall record and 20 titles.
This series ended in a tie last season for the fifth time ever and first since 1993. The Falcons closed the competition with a 1-1 mark. Air Force opened the season series with a 23-3 win at Navy Sept. 11 and lost to Army, 21-14, in overtime in the Commanders' Classic at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, Nov. 6. Navy defeated Army, 17-13, Dec. 11, to force the tie.

AIR FORCE - NAVY TIES
Navy offensive assistant Chuck Petersen is a 1985 graduate of Air Force. Petersen spend 17 years as an assistant at Air Force, coaching running backs (1990), receivers (1991-96) and quarterback/fullbacks (1997-06). He was the primary play caller from 1997-06 and served as offensive coordinator from 2000-06. Petersen was a four-year letterwinner at cornerback and served as a team captain his senior year. As a player, he helped the program win the first two Commander-In-Chief's Trophies in school history and helped lead Air Force to its first two bowl wins in school history (Vanderbilt in the 1982 Hall of Fame Bowl and Ole Miss in the 1983 Independence Bowl).
