Air Force Men Win Ralph Lindeman Invitational

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force men's track and field team won the Ralph Lindeman Invitational this afternoon (Jan. 21) at the Academy's Cadet Field House. Backed by two first-place finishes, the men recorded several scoring finishes during the final day of competition for the newly-renamed meet to honor the Falcons' legendary former head coach.
Freshman Ethan Ashley clocked a debut time of 4:29.19 to win the mile – and lead a trio of classmates to four of the top-five finishes, as Will Allen and Jayden Nats finished second (4:30.77) and third (4:32.84), respectively, and Ashton Higginson added a fifth-place time of 4:34.31. In the 800-meter run, junior Alex Patton added a 10-point win to the Falcons' total after finishing first with a time of 1:55.50.
Backed by a runner-up finish from sophomore Javin Bostic, the Falcons claimed three of the top-five finishes in the 60-meter dash. Bostic, who also accounted for a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (21.84), clocked a 60-meter time of 6.77 to finish second in that final. Senior Zac Larrier clocked a third-place time of 6.88, while classmate Jacob Trach finished fifth in 21.84.
The men also claimed three scoring finishes in the 60-meter hurdles and shot put on Saturday. Sophomore Darek Hackett (third, 8.13), junior Philip Hundl (fourth, 8.18) and junior Seth Meador (fifth, 8.20) claimed three of the top-five spots in the hurdles, while senior Hayden Bullock (third, 54'10½") and a pair of freshman – Texas Tanner (fourth, 53'5") and Nic Davis (seventh, 46'2") – earned top-eight finishes from the throwing circle. With his throw, Tanner debuted at No. 21 on the program's all-time list.
Sophomores Robert Postell and Ben Charlebois finished fifth (16'0¾") and seventh (15'1"), respectively, in the pole vault and Air Force earned two more scoring finishes in the triple jump, as junior Brandon Lindner finished seventh (45'5¼") and classmate John Colizzi placed eighth (43'9"). Sophomore Charles Whitcomb clocked a time of 50.37 to finish sixth in the 400-meter dash, while Larrier, Hackett and Colizzi capped the meet in the mile relay that finished second in 3:17.52 (with sophomores Cameron Breier).
The men amassed 158 points to easily win the competition – distancing themselves from runner-up Wichita State by 45 points. Long Beach State finished third with 99 points, while BYU (83), Sacramento State (59) and Colorado (23) rounded out the men's field.
The women, who accumulated 51.99 points to finish sixth in the eight-team women's meet, earned seven scoring finishes on Saturday. Freshman India Jones claimed a victory in the mile during her collegiate debut, while sophomore Sydney Weaber added 10 points for the women with a 2:27.64 in the 800-meter run. After clocking a winning mile of 5:17.65, Jones paced the Falcons to three of the top-five spots in the 13-runner event. Sophomore Ally Peterson added time of 5:25.39 to finish second, while freshman Grace Dailey nabbed a fifth-place finish (5:29.57) in her collegiate debut.
Sophomore Taylor Rioux finished second in the 400-meter dash (57.15) and teamed up with freshman Jacqui Spencer, junior Amanda Fraga and sophomore Jessie Boult for a fourth-place finish in the mile relay (4:06.79. Freshman Beatrice Shea earned the same placement in the 3000-meter run after running an 11:37.88 in her first collegiate race.
The Falcons return to action next week, when they split for a pair of meets. Part of the squad will head to Lubbock for the Texas Tech Open on Jan. 27-28, while the rest return to Boulder for the Colorado Invitational on Jan. 27.
