GRAND FORKS, N.D. – In another lengthy and heavily-contested affair, the Air Force women's tennis team fell, 4-3, to Creighton on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons clinched their third-consecutive doubles point to open spring play behind wins on flights one and three.
No court three, Andrea Le/Courtney Swift earned their first win of the season, defeating Kate Krueger/Siri Kongara, 6-4.
Line one doubles duo Alexis Odom/Sydney Fitch improved to 3-0 in dual doubles with a 6-1 win over Creighton's Malvika Shukla/Leanne Kendall.
In singles, Odom earned the first points for the Falcons, winning 6-3 and 6-4 in the first and third sets against Creighton's Valerie Negin, handing her opponent her first spring loss while notching her first dual singles win of the year.
On court one, Krueger was forced to retire due to injury, awarding Fitch the victory by default.
Air Force women's tennis (0-3) remains in Grand Forks, taking on North Dakota tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m.
Head Coach Kim Gidley's Perspective:
"It was another dog fight today for this team. Our doubles play continues to be a dominating force, winning the doubles point for the third straight match. I was especially pleased with the tone that our No. 1 doubles team of Alexis Odom and Sydney Fitch set - They came out and dominated with great energy from the start. At no. 3, Andrea Le served out her match with Courtney Swift by hitting 4 of 5 first serves for the win and doubles point.
"In singles, the team lost 5 of 6 first sets for the first time competing at sea level. The coachability and fight in our girls was evident, as four players came back to win the second set. Anytime you do that, you've got to be pleased as a coach.
"The other singles highlight was Alexis Odom. Alexis played three tough sets to come away with her first win at no. 2 singles. The discipline and fight she showed today was extremely impressive. I am excited about this team and the direction they are headed."
