Air Force Rallies To 80-71 Overtime Win Over William & Mary At Air Force Classic

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's basketball (3-2) rallied to an 80-71 overtime win over William & Mary Friday night at Clune Arena in day two action at the Air Force Classic Multi-Event Tournament. Juniors Beau Becker and Ethan Taylor combined for 55 points to lead the Falcons past the Tribe (2-3) en route to their second-straight win.
Air Force led for most of the game, but William & Mary clawed its way back into the game late in regulation. The Falcons led by as many as nine points in the first half, building to a 33-27 halftime lead. The Tribe would rally and take their first lead at 51-50 with 6:27 to play.
William & Mary seemed to have the game in hand when Sean Houpt hit a three to put them up five at 62-57 with 1:56 to play.
But Taylor stepped up big for the Falcons to close regulation, hitting a three with 55 seconds to pull the team with within two. After a blocked shot by Kellan Boylan on guard Trey Moss's drive, Air Force got the ball back with 17 seconds left to play. Taylor then tied the game up on tough layup on a drive through heavy traffic with three seconds in regulation. The team then went to overtime after a missed W&M shot.
It was all Air Force in overtime, as they team out-scored William & Mary 18-9. After trading points to start overtime, the Falcons took the lead for good on a field goal by Becker with 1:54 to go. Taylor then drilled his sixth three of the game to put the Falcons up five with 1:14 left in overtime. The Falcons out-scored the Tribe 6-2 the rest of the way to complete the comeback win.
Becker scored a game-high 31 points for the Falcons. He was 12-of-18 from the field and 5-of-9 from three-point range. Taylor surpassed 20 points for the fourth-consecutive game with 24 points and six rebounds. Taylor had 18 second-half points for the Falcons.
Boylan and junior Jeffrey Mills added eight points each. Boylan also had 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.
Air Force held William & Mary to 42 percent shooting from the field and 32 percent from three-point range. Moss led the team with 20 points on 20 shot attempts.
The Air Force Classic resumes Sunday with day three action. The opening game at 11:30 am features Lindenwood vs. William & Mary. Air Force plays Omaha at 2 pm.
