Last Time/All-Time Against Colorado:
0-8 all-time against Colorado, Air Force seeks its first-ever win over CU and first win over a Power Five program in Falcon history.
Next-Gen Fighters:
The 2023-24 Falcons roster seven freshmen, the largest class at Air Force since the 2016-17 season and the largest in the Mountain West this season.
Keelie O'Hollaren leads Air Force in field goal percentage (.446), three-point percentage (.385) and successful three-point attempts (15); Jayda McNabb tops the Falcons in blocks (5) and rebounds per game (6.4). McNabb rankes 17th in the nation in the same category.
In Air Force's 83-61 win over Army (Nov. 17), O'Hollaren broke loose to the tune of 24 points on 9-18 shooting. With the Falcons beginning to gap Army down the final minutes of the third quarter, O'Hollaren ripped off eight points inside of 60 seconds including a pair of three-pointers on consecutive drives, pushing Air Force out to an 18-point advantage that ultimately could not be made up.
At Houston (Nov. 10), McNabb, in her second career start, earned six points, ten rebounds (game-high) and a block in 33 minutes; O'Hollaren logged seven points and four rebounds in 15 minutes.
In the Falcons' home-opening win against Denver on Nov. 6, O'Hollaren logged 16 points on 4-6 from three-point range; McNabb, starting in her intercollegiate debut, totaled nine points on the evening and three blocks – one more than any individual Falcon had in 2022-23; Alexis Cortez, in 19 minutes played, logged five points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Cardiac Cadets:
At the Rainbow Wahine Showdown, (Nov. 24-26), games against both Hawaii (W, 54-51) and Idaho State (L, 55-52) both fell to a single possession at the end of regulation.
Air Force's 65-63 win over Denver at Clune Arena (Nov. 6) in the Falcons' home opener fell to a decisive foul drawn by Madison Smith with just 1.5 seconds remaining in regulation to send her to the free throw line. Smith's pair of successful makes proved game winning.
14 games in 2022-23 were decided by two possessions or less, with six contests falling to a single possession. At Colorado (Nov. 19), the Falcons trailed by two points entering the final minute of regulation before falling by eight, threatening the program's first-ever win against a Power Five opponent. All 31 games in 2022-23 were decided in regulation. Air Force has not played in overtime since defeating UTEP in double overtime in El Paso on Dec. 21, 2021.
Last Time Out:
Despite holding a lead for the majority of the contest, the Air Force women's basketball team lost its grip late in game three of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown, falling 55-52 to Idaho State on Sunday afternoon in Honolulu.
Perry led Air Force in scoring for the third-straight evening after posting 12 points on Sunday. Perry, earning double-digits in each appearance at the Rainbow Wahine Showdown, finished the event averaging 14.33 points through three games. Junior Madison Smith followed up adding ten points of her own. Smith completed her time in Hawaii a perfect 10-10 from the free-throw line – The only player in the four-team field to finish perfect from the stripe.
The bulk of the contest, the Falcons struggled to complete shots, closing the contest 16-50 (.320) from the field; Second-chance points underscored the Bengals' recipe for success, as Air Force (4-3) allowed 13 second-chance points to Idaho State, generated from 18 offensive boards for the Bengals.
The Falcons managed to get out to a quick 5-0 lead in the opening minutes of the contest and held it until the final minute of the first, finishing the first quarter down just 12-11.
Entering the second quarter, the Falcons looked the superior offense as Air Force outscored the Bengals 18-8, the bulk of which took place during a 14-2 run between the six and two-minute marks and was fueled largely behind five points for senior Taylor Britt. During the spurt, freshman Jordyn Devaughn logged the first three-pointer of her Air Force career, and sophomore Parker Brown earned her first points of the season. The collective effort swelled the Falcons' lead by as much as 12 and resulted in an Air Force lead 29-20 at half.
From there, Air Force never quite found its momentum, as a 7-0 the Bengals opened on a 7-0 run in the second half. The Falcons were able to chip their way back to a tie at the end of the third quarter off of free throws, but only managed one shot – a pullup jumper from Britt – in the last six minutes of the third.
ISU took its final lead in the early seconds of the fourth quarter, but the Falcons managed to keep the score within manageable distance. A clutch three-pointer from Dasha Macmillian with 20 seconds to go cut the Bengals' lead back to two, but free throws down the stretch managed to keep Air Force at bay.
