DURHAM, N.C. – In the first and only Monday game of the Air Force season, the Falcons dropped an 18-6 contest to a red-hot No. 3 Duke team in Durham. Air Force's win streak ends at three as the Falcons drop to 5-3 on the season. Duke, with seven-straight wins, improved to 8-1.
Of the six Air Force goals, senior attack man Ethan Grandolfo scored three, tallying 15 goals this season and his third hat trick in the last four games. Gavin Peene and Brandon Dodd upped their season scoring tallies by one goal each. Sophomore attacker and Air Force preppie Ethan Howell scored his first collegiate goal against the Blue Devils. The last Falcon freshman to score against Duke was Aidan Tolen who put up a hat trick on the Blue Devils in 2021.
In goal, Jason Rose made an impressive 13 saves but was unable to fend off the well-balanced Duke attack— six Blue Devils notched two goals or more on the game. Dyson Williams led Duke with four goals on seven shots, on all goal.
The Air Force defense was playing catch up, causing just four of Duke's 16 turnovers on the game. The Falcons also struggled at the center dot, winning just seven attempts in 27 tries. Braden Gaab took most of the face off attempts, winning 4-of-15. The Blue Devils were also quicker to the ground ball, picking up 43 to AF's 21.
Next up, Air Force returns to USAFA to host ASUN newcomer Lindenwood, Saturday, March 25. Action is slated for noon at Falcon Lacrosse Practice Field.
