Women’s Tennis Opens League Play With UNLV, SDSU Weekend in Las Vegas

With non-conference play completed and 11 matches in hand, Mountain West competition comes at a blistering pace for the Air Force women's tennis team, as the Falcons take on 8-1 UNLV on Saturday afternoon, followed by a Sunday morning match against ITA-ranked No. 49 San Diego State.
Falcons at a Glance:
Aimed at shaking off a pair of losses to No. 39 Denver (March 5) and Grand Canyon (March 11), the Falcons enter Saturday's competition seeking a return to their winning ways.
Air Force enters the weekend a combined 44-41 in dual competition. The Falcons, after opening to an 8-1 team record in dual doubles play this spring, look for a return to form in the opening stage of dual competition, facing a pair of teams this weekend which combine for a 53-33 record in doubles play so far this season.
Falcon duos combine for a 17-8 record, with the line-three pairing of junior Isabella Flodin/freshman Abby Cotuna leading the way with an unblemished 7-0 record. On court one, Sydney Fitch/Alexis Odom are 5-2 after opening the spring 5-0.
In singles competition, freshman Arianna Van Houweling is 7-2 on the season, currently riding a three-match win streak on court six, with her last loss occurring on Feb. 16. Van Houweling was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week on March 15 for her three-set tiebreaker victory over GCU.
UNLV:
After starting 8-0 in dual competition, UNLV dropped its first spring contest on March 17 - A 4-3 decision at home hosting Indiana in Vegas.
UNLV doubles are led by court two pair Cindy Hu/Coco Zhao, who enter the weekend seeking to build on an unbeaten 8-0 doubles record; Court three is owned by Salsa Aher/Nina Zdravkovic, who currently ride a three-match win streak and are 4-2 on their court.
In singles play, Aher (court two) Zhao (court five) and Molly Helgesson (court one) combine for a 21-1 dual singles record.
San Diego State:
With a Saturday match against New Mexico on the books prior to facing Air Force the following day, SDSU enters the weekend on a three-match win streak, including a pair of wins at home against No. 61 Tulsa (4-3) and No. 37 Purdue (4-3).
Dual doubles for the Aztecs is led by 5-0 pair Andrea Velceea/Andjela Skrobonja; On court three in singles, Dariya Detkovskaya is 9-1 with five-consecutive wins; Skrobonja, on line one, sports a 6-4 record with back-to-back victories.

It was Van Houweling's three-set tiebreaker victory over GCU's Valentina Del Marco which awarded Air Force with its lone point of the day and the freshman with her third-consecutive win.
Despite dropping just their third doubles point of the season, Falcon duo Isabella Flodin/Abby Cotuna struck first, claiming a 6-4 win over GCU's Lamoreaux/Kocevar, snapping a four-match win streak and improving to 7-0 in dual doubles.
