LONG BEACH, Calif. – Recording Air Force's best hammer throw in 12 years, senior Jaret Prete led a small contingent of field athletes during the opening day of competition at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach.
AIR FORCE TOP-10 MARKS
No. 2 – Jaret Prete, Hammer Throw (207'9")
After fouling his first two attempts, Prete responded by unleashing a career-best heave of 207'9" – a mark that improved his own No. 2 distance on the program's all-time standings by nearly three feet. Finishing 12th in a field that featured 55 throwers, Prete also set a new Air Force Senior Class Record – easily bettering the mark of 204'10" he set yesterday at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate.
Prete was one of three Falcons to finish within the top half of the field on Friday, as sophomore Cooper Stroka and junior Gerrit Tamminga finished 23rd (190'7") and 27th (186'2"), respectively.
On the women's side, junior Kasarah Hernandez moved into No. 23 on the program's all-time standings after posting a personal-best clearance of 11'4½" during a top-10 performance in the Friday session of the women's pole vault.
While some teammates will compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational later tonight in Azusa, other members of the Air Force squad head back to Jack Rose Stadium tomorrow (April 15) for the final day of the Beach Invitational.
