4/19/2023 2:44:00 PM | Track and Field
While much of the Air Force track and field team will be taking part in Recognition at the Academy over the weekend, senior Sam Gilman will represent the Falcons at Stanford's Payton Jordan Invitational on Friday (April 21).
MEET INFORMATION
The Payton Jordan Invitational will be held on April 21-22 at Cobb Track and Angell Field on the Stanford campus, with the men's 5000-meter run scheduled for a tentative 7:45 p.m. (PT) start on Friday, April 21. Live results will be available through Record Timing, while FloTrack will broadcast the meet through its subscription service.
AIR FORCE IN THE RANKINGS
Two Falcons are listed among the nation's Top 20 in the latest edition of the TFRRS national standings (April 17). Ryan Johnson is listed 17th in the 10,000-meter run following his 28:20.70 performance at the Stanford Invitational, while Hayden Bullock is ranked 18th in the discus after breaking the Academy Record (194'9") at the Beach Invitational.
SQUAD GOALS
With a combined distance of 243'0", the men's hammer quartet of Jaret Prete, Cooper Stroka, Texas Tanner and Gerrit Tamminga moved into the Top 10 of this week's USTFCCCA #EventSquad Rankings – a which are determined by the cumulative season-best marks from a team's top-four athletes on the national descending order list. The hammer is one of two top-15 throwing units for Air Force, as the men's discus lineup of Hayden Bullock, Tamminga, Tanner and Jace Pittman is ranked 15th with a combined distance of 211'0". Overall, the men have five event groups ranked among the NCAA Top 20. In addition to the two throwing groups, Air Force is ranked eighth in the 5000-meter run (55:14.4), 14th in the 10,000-meter run (1:57:29) and 16th in the 110-meter hurdles (57.61).
DON'T FORGET
The Falcons are two weeks out from the first – and last – home meet of the 2023 outdoor season: the Air Force Twilight Open on May 5.
COMING UP
The full Air Force squad returns to action next week, as they split for the 113th running of the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa (April 26-29) and the Doug Max Invitational in Fort Collins (April 29).
