Falcons roll to 13-4 win

COLORADO SPRINGS- Air Force used a seven-run 2nd to jump out in front, while Doyle Gehring cruised over his 7.0 innings to guide the Falcons to a 13-4 Friday afternoon win.

Gehring allowed two runs in the 3rd, his lone blemish on the afternoon. The junior pitched seven strong innings, surrendering just the two runs on six hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

The Oklahoman picked up his second win of the season in the process, as Gehring and Jake Sansing have combined for 15.0 IP with a 2.40 ERA the first two games of the series.

Sam Kulasingam continues to be one of the best hitters in the country, as the junior's 2-5 day extended his on-base streak to 28 games. Kulasingam plated a run in the 4th before launching his second home run of the season in the 4th.

Jay Thomason led the Falcons with 5 RBI as the result of his 2-5 performance. Thomason blew open the 2nd inning with a three-run homer to left field, his conference-leading 11th dinger. Thomason also doubled home two runs in the 8th to build an 11-2 Air Force lead.

Friday represents Thomason's second five-RBI game of 2023.

Jake Greiving and Trayden Tamiya managed three hits each, while Aaron Reyes opened the scoring in the 2nd with a two-run single. Matt Thompson provided a pair of of base-hits and a RBI as well.

Chase Spencer maintained his form at the plate, going 2-4 with 2 RBI.

In the 2nd, Greiving reached base following a leadoff error, opening the floodgates. The Falcons eventually loaded the bases with one out before Reyes' single scored the first two Air Force runs. One batter later, Spencer singled home a run, while Kulasingam poked a fly ball in left that was dropped, resulting in a RBI fielder's choice. Thomason's home run capped what became a seven-run frame.

After a two-run Bulldogs 3rd, Gehring proceeded to retire 12 of the next 14 batters.

Ben Weber entered in the 8th, allowing two runs over his 2.0 IP to close out the ballgame.

Air Force will go for the sweep on Saturday, April 8 with first-pitch scheduled for 12:00 pm MT.
