WEST POINT- Carrying a one-goal lead into the second half, the Falcons were unable to keep the Black Knights at bay, as Army managed two goals in the final 12 minutes to defeat Air Force 2-1.
Caeli Sherman tallied her third goal of the new year to give Air Force an initial 1-0 lead in the 40th minute. Sherman calmed the ball under her feet after a few frenetic bounces, firing a right-footed strike into the bottom left corner of the net.
Sherman now shares the team lead in goal with Jordi Ives, having scored in three of five games thus far. As was the theme of the evening however, Sherman's score accounted for just one of the Falcons two shots on goal in the first half.
Army bided its time, as the Black Knights eventually equalized the score in the 78th minute following an Air Force foul in the penalty area. Just over 11 minutes later, Army served a late cross into the box, as a headed goal saw the Black Knights claim the lead with a minute remaining.
The Falcons were unable to replicate the offensive pressure of the previous three matches, attempting just six total shots over the 90 minutes. Only three of the Falcons six shots were on goal.
Thursday's loss snaps Air Force's three-match winning streak while also moving the all-time series against Army to an even 9-9-2.
Next, the Falcons will remain out east, traveling to Bucknell to play the Bison on Sunday, September 10. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:00 am MT.
