
Women’s tennis earns 5-2 win over Abilene Christian

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force women's tennis team earned its first win of 2024, closing out Abilene Christian 5-2 in the Cadet Gym on Thursday evening.
Air Force, notching their first doubles point at home this season, claimed the opening point behind wins on lines two and three for Falcon duos Isabella Flodin/Arianna Van Houweling and Alexis Odom/Nadia Kojonroj.
Flodin/Van Houweling earned their first match-play win of 2024, claiming a 6-3 victory over ACU's Olivia Sears/Maria Casos. The Falcon pair got up to as high as a 4-1 lead in the set, before Sears and Cascos made a push to even the affair, winning back-to-back games, before Flodin/Van Houweling shut them down, winning the final two to secure their court.
With Air Force falling on line three, it was up to Alexis Odom/Nadia Kojonroj to clinch doubles on court two against Wildcat pair Hebe Toyos/Masha Vrsalovic. On set point up 5-2, Odom/Kojonroj won the deuce point to secure the Falcons' first doubles win of the 2024 dual season.
The Falcons managed two-set victories on courts one through three from Van Houweling, Flodin and Odom to secure the sweep.
On line one, Van Houweling dispatched of Cascos, 6-1, 6-0, claiming her first straight-set victory of the dual season while securing a 2-0 lead for the Falcons.
On court three, Flodin, after taking Maryjoe Crisologo in the first set, 6-2, had a fight on her hands in the second as the two never allowed more than a one-game lead on the way to a 4-4 tie in the set. Flodin swept the resulting game and won her final two over Crisologo for a 6-4 win in the second set to secure her win.
The win to clinch belonged to Odom, who took Sears, 6-3, 6-2, earning her first win of match play and securing the Falcons' first team victory.
Opting not to end on a clinch, Play resumed on lines four, five and six, as Kojonroj battled with Vrsalovic in the second set after taking the first at 6-2. Tied at 4-4, Kojonroj took breakpoint to win the game and go up 5-4, but then the two traded the next two games to lead 6-5. In the tiebreak, Kojonroj went up 4-2, but Vrsalovic claimed the next two to tie. From there, Kojonroj won three-straight points to claim a 7-4 advantage, improving to 2-1 in her first three singles contests.
