
Women’s tennis falls in 4-3 battle with Buffalo

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Despite riding a wave of momentum after a win the evening before and notching a trio of singles victories, the Air Force women's tennis team fell 4-3 to Buffalo in the Cadet Gym on Friday evening.
Falling in doubles on courts one and three, line two was played out by Alexis Odom/Nadia Kojonroj, who earned a 7-6 win over Jagmeet Kaur/Azra Deniz Comlek, inching out a 9-7 win in the tiebreak to claim their second doubles victory in as many matches.
Sophomore Arianna Van Houweling struck first in singles, downing Deniz Comlek, 7-5, 6-3, to earn her second win of the week and improve to 3-1 in dual singles.
Kojonroj earned what was the tying point, defeating Deanne Choo, 7-6, 6-3, improving to 3-0 in match play.
Isabella Flodin, facing a 3-0 Ambre Amat, split the first two sets with her opponent, winning 7-5 in the first then dropping her second, 6-3, forcing a deciding set. In the third, Flodin and Amat battled to 6-6, as Flodin forced a tiebreaker off a deuce-point win. In the tiebreak, Flodin and Amat remained in deadlock all the way to 7-7, before Flodin claimed wins in the final two points to win the tiebreak, 9-7, clinching the match.
Air Force fell in doubles and dropped matches on lines one, five and six.
Coach Hollander on team progression through the week:
"This team is getting better every match. Myself and coach Gartner are very proud of the grit and heart the team showed this week. On every court we battled from start to finish and brought the energy. We are only moving forward from here."
