Air Force Falls at UTRGV, 5-1

EDINBURG – The Falcon men's soccer team dropped a 5-1 Western Athletic Conference contest to UT-Rio Grande Valley, Sunday afternoon, at UTRGV Track and Soccer Complex. Air Force drops to 1-3 in the league with a 1-10-1 overall record.

Falcon senior team captain Carter Rizzo was the first to score (5'), carrying the momentum from Friday's win into the Sunday meeting. The goal marked Rizzo's first this season despite leading the squad with 11 shots on goal.

The Vaqueros were quick to respond (7') as Kgodiso Sukatti notched his fourth goal this season via touches from Kimiti Fritz and Jaime Carrillo. UTRGV continued to push the pace with a second goal (17') by Cesar Baltazar in his first strike this season.

At the halftime break, UTRGV had Air Force on its heels, outshooting the Falcons, 9-3, with four corner kick attempts.

An Air Force goalkeeper change was made at the half as Will Collins retired with two saves and two goals allowed. Freshman keeper Brody Smith entered the match for his fifth appearance this season.

The Vaqueros took advantage of the momentum and the goalkeeper change to tack on three more goals within the first 18 minutes of the second half. Pablo Torre scored (55') via the Fritz and Carrillo connection. Four minutes later (59'), Keaviano Francis added the fourth goal via Carrillo's third assist on the match. The final goal was tacked on in the 64' minute by Jason Robles and Pablo Torre.

At the final horn, UTRGV attempted 19 shots to Air Force's five. Smith made three saves in 45 minutes of action.

Next up, Air Force returns to the Academy for the first of a three-match home stint from October 20-27. The Falcons welcome in Utah Valley in the only match of the weekend, Sunday, October 20. The Following week, AF hosts Utah Tech and UNLV on October 24 and 27, respectively.
