Air Force Falls to Colorado State on the Road

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Air Force opened the second half of the Mountain West Volleyball season with a three-set loss to league-leading Colorado State this morning (Oct 24) in Fort Collins. The Falcons fell to the host Rams in straight 14-25, 16-25, 17-25 sets inside Moby Arena.
Senior Mekayla Dedo led the Falcons with six kills, while Grace Fiaseu added five strikes on .364 hitting (5-1-11) and collected a team-high three blocks (one solo, two assisted). Senior Ellie Eichhorn registered a team-leading 13 assists, while classmate Ella Tschuor served up Air Force's only ace amd freshman Alysa Walker tallied a team-high five digs.
After Air Force benefited from a pair of CSU errors for a quick 2-1 opening to the match, Colorado State rattled off seven of the next eight points to put Air Force in a 3-9 hole junior Alex Hatchett stopped the Rams' run with a kill, while back-to-back scores from Tschuor (kill, ace) pulled the Falcons within four (6-10). A kill and solo block from junior Ashley Bible interrupted another run by the Rams, as the home team pushed their advantage to nine by the 18-9 mark. A strike from freshman Brooksie Isham put the Falcons in double figures on the next play, but – despite Hatchett tallying another kill and teaming up with Tschuor for an ace – Colorado State won the set by a 25-14 margin.
A pair of kills from Dedo helped Air Force to a quick 3-2 lead in the second set, as the two teams traded points. The Falcons maintained the narrow advantage off another strike by the senior (4-3) and three kills from Fiaseu (5-4, 6-5, 8-7). A kill from Tschuor and a Dedo/Hatchett block tied the set at 10, but the Rams used an 10-3 run to take control of the match with a 20-13 lead. The Falcons claimed another kill from Fiaseu, but Colorado State took the set by a 25-1 score.
The Falcons and Rams traded points again in the opening plays of the third set, with Hatchett, Dedo, and sophomore Annamaria Ramos helping Air Force to a three-all tie. After another strike from Dedo brought the Falcons within one at the 4-5 mark, Colorado State scored the next eight points for a 13-5 lead. Hatchett, Tschuor and Walker put the Falcons in double digits (10-16), while three scores fro m Fiaseu (kill, two blocks with Ramos) headlined a four-point run by Air Force that cut the deficit to three (14-17). The freshman added a solo stop, but Colorado State closed the match on a 8-3 run to complete the sweep with a 25-17 win.
Air Force remains on the road next week, when it heads to California to take on San Jose State (Oct. 31) and Fresno State (Nov. 2).
