LEADING FROM THE FRONT
Colleen Murphy enters her eighth season as the head coach of the Air Force women's swimming team in 2024-25. Murphy just completed her 12th season at the Academy where she was tabbed College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America's (CSCAA) 100 Greatest College Swimming & Diving Coaches of the past 100 years.
Seniors Ella Martin and Abby Turner were named team captains for the 2024.25 campaign. Martin appears in the all-time top 10 record book on five occasions; she is fourth in the 400 IM, fifth in the 200 back, eighth in the 200 IM, and a member of the school record holding 400 free relay team. Turner made her mark in the top 10 record book in four events; she is third fastest in the 50 and 100 free, fourth in the 200 free, and a member of the school record holding 400 free relay team.
LOOKING FORWARD
Next weekend, Air Force welcomes Nebraska-Omaha and Liberty University to USAFA for three-way action, October 11-12. Action on Friday is slated for 5 p.m., while swimming commences at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Air Force will host seven home meets highlighted by the Colorado Sprint Championships, February 1. Air Force will be in competition at the prestigious Phil Hansel Invitational, November 20-22. The Mountain West Championships are slated for February 19-22, in Houston, Texas, while the NCAA Championships will be held in Federal Way, Washington, March 19-22.
WELCOME ABOARD
The Falcons welcome eight freshman swimmers and five divers to the roster. Ella Donlin (mid-distance/free), Jordan Evans (IM/back), Addy Forbes (back/IM), Addison Fuchs (fly/back), Lily Larson (mid-distance/free), Grace Nickell (IM/mid-distance free), Jena Nowoswiat (fly/IM), and Olivia Suarez (fly/IM) represent the swimming newcomers.
Arianna Caldwell, Annaliese Cundiff, JiaQi Deng, Kacey Hu, and Chloe Perkins represent the newcoming divers.
LAST SEASON IN A NUTSHELL
Air Force finished the 2023-24 season with a 5-8 dual record, including two-consecutive dual wins to end the campaign. In a resounding manner, Air Force was victorious at the Liberty Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia in November following a score of 2540.00 to win the seven-team meet. There, Naomi Furman recorded the fastest 200 breaststroke time in program history following her 2:13.31. As well, Kinzie Etzelmiller's 313.65 in the 3-meter dive that same weekend became the school record in the event. Air Force would eventually place seventh among the nine teams at the Mountain West Championships following a team score of 769.00 points. Anna Ashley and Katie Andrist earned all-conference honors, while Alex Clark broke the school record in the 200 backstroke with a 1:59.85. Clark, as well as Ryan Mills, Ella Martin, and Abby Turner would later reset the Air Force 400 freestyle relay record with a 3:21.69.
