
Air Force Suffers 3-1 Setback to Boise State

BOISE, Idaho – Air Force dropped a roller-coaster of a volleyball match to Boise State this evening (Oct. 3) on the Broncos' home court, as it ended just short of a comeback with a 3-1 deficit. In a contest that accounted for 18 ties and seven lead changes, the Falcons fell in 17-25, 25-21, 16-25, 23-25 sets.
Sophomore Annamaria Ramo paced the Falcons with nine kills, while senior Mekayla Dedo added eight and classmate Alex Hatchett posted seven on a team-high .389 hitting (7-0-18). The junior duo of Jordan Suan and Ashley Bible posted team-high dig tallies of 17 and 10, respectively, while Bible also accounted for four blocks, including three solo stops, and Suan was one of three Falcons to serve up a pair of aces (junior Greta Hans, freshman Grace Fiaseu). Freshman Mia Loyd rounded out the team leaders, as she (19) and Hans (12) combined for 31 of the team's 36 assists.
Air Force got off to a hot start, jumping out to a fast 8-2 lead backed by scoring from Loyd (ace), Ramos (kill), and Bible (two kills, solo block). The Broncos called a timeout after the early Air Force burst and responded with a run of their own – tying the score at 11 and taking the lead on the next point. Boise State continued to widen the margin and, despite a pair of kills from Fiaseu, ultimately took the opening set by at25-17 score.
The Falcons took the first two points of the second set, but the Broncos rattled off eight of the next 10 points to send Air Force into an early timeout trailing 4-8. Senior Ella Tschuor put down a kill following a diving save by Suan, while two points from Bible (kill, solo block) and a kill from Ramos headlined a three-point run that pulled Air Force within two at the 12-14 mark. Boise State responded with a 5-1 run, broken up only by a kill from Bible, as the Broncos pushed their lead back to six (19-13). Bible (kill) and Hans (ace) teamed up for back-to-back scores, while a kill from Dedo helped Air Force pull within two (17-19) once again. The Broncos took a 21-18 lead, but the Falcons answered with a vengeance – tolling off seven-straight points for the win. Fiaseu tallied a kill and an ace during the set-ending run, while Dedo put down a kill and teamed up with Hatchett for a block, as Air Force evened the match with the thrilling 25-21 comeback victory.
