ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Air Force volleyball team suffered a 3-1 setback to New Mexico this evening (Nov. 12), as they fell in 14-25, 25-21, 23-25, 18-25 sets during the Mountain West Network's Tuesday Night Block Party at Johnson Gym.
Â
The youngest members of the Falcons' lineup guided the squad in most stat categories on Tuesday night. Brooksie Isham led the team with a career-high 13 kills on .321 hitting, while Mia Loyd notched another 20-assist match and classmate Grace Fiaseu posted a team-leading three blocks (one solo, two assisted) and shared the Falcons' lead in aces (two). Senior Ellie Eichhorn, who also accounted for a pair of service aces, tied junior Ashley Bible for the final stat of the night, as the duo each accounted for 10 blocks – with Eichhorn earning her first double-double (14 assists).
Â
Air Force jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead in the opening minutes of the match, with the run punctuated by a solo block from Fiaseu. The Lobos responded with a 3-1 run of their own to tie the set at four, but the Falcons answered with three of the next four points (7-5) – a run that included kills from Isham and senior Ella Tschuor as well as a service ace from Eichhorn. New Mexico broke the set open during an 11-3 run that gave the Lobos a 16-10 advantage. The Falcons recorded kills from Isham, Tschuor and junior Alex Hatchett, but New Mexico rolled to a 25-14 win.
Â
The teams traded the first eight scores of the second, with Air Force earning set-tying scores from Fiaseu (1-1), Isham (3-3) and Tschuor (4-4). Air Force tallied back-to-back points for its first lead of the set on the next play, while a pair of kills from Bible and a score from Fiaseu gave Air Force a 7-4 advantage. Back-to-back errors from the Lobos put Air Force up 10-7, but the home squad scored the next three to tie the score at 10. Isham added a pair of scores to help tied the score at 13. Stikes from Tschuor and sophomore Anna Leahy sent Air Force into the media timeout with a 15-14 lead. Bible added a kill out of the break, while three errors by UNM pushed the Falcons' lead out to five (19-14). Two kills and an ace from Fiaseu pushed Air Force to set-point (24-19), while a kill from Isham secured the Falcons' 25-21 victory.
Â
Three kills from Tschuor, as well as strikes from Isham and Fiaseu, helped Air Force to a 7-3 start to the third that sent New Mexico into an early timeout. The Lobos pulled within one at 9-8, before a Fiasue/Leahy block and an Isham kill helped push the Falcons' advantage back to three (12-9).  New Mexico again pulled within one (14-13), before kills from Tschuor (two) and Isham (one) allowed Air Force to regain its three-point lead (17-14). Back-to-back kills from Fiaseu and Bible broke an 18-all tie (20-18), but the Lobos scored five of the next six points to take a 23-21 lead. Isham added strike to bring Air Force within one (24-23), but New Mexico scored the final point for the 25-23 win – marking the sixth time in eight sets this season that a set has been decided by just two points.
Â
New Mexico jumped out to a fast 3-1 lead tin the fourth, before a kill and ace by Fiaseu evened the set at three. After Air Force took a 4-3 lead on the next play, the Lobos scored the next six points to send the Falcons into a timeout, down 4-10. New Mexico added three more scores, before senior Mekayla Dedo broke the run with a kill (5-13). The senior added another kill during a four-point swing that cut the Falcons' deficit to 8-13. Back-to-back kills from Dedo put the Falcons in double figures (10-16). Bible and Isham both tallied a pair of kills during a late run, with Isham's second strike sparking a 4-0 run that included another Eichhorn ace and two block from Hatchett (assisted by Tschuor, assisted by Dedo). Although the Falcons pulled within five at 18-23, New Mexico earned the final two points for the 25-18 win.
