U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force Women's basketball opened a new chapter in its history in resounding fashion, defeating the reigning RMAC Champion Regis Rangers, 94-64, on Monday evening at Clune Arena.
Air Force (1-0) scoring was led by junior Milahnie Perry, who totaled a game-high 27 points on 10-14 shooting, 2-3 from three-point range and 5-6 from the free throw line.
Three other Falcons – Madison Smith, Keelie O'Hollaren and Emily Adams – posted double-digit scoring in the contest, putting up 14, 14, and 12, respectively. Adams' 12 marked a career best, as the junior went 6-6 from the field and earning a plus-37 in 20 minutes of play time.
The Falcons were sluggish to open their season, going 0-8 from the field and allowing Regis to claim an early 10-0 advantage. At the 4:56 mark, Air Force's scoring leaders took control, as Perry and Smith combined for 12 points in just over two minutes of play time to erase the Falcons' deficit. Perry and Smith's outburst culminated in a 19-18 lead after the first quarter.
In the second, both teams exchanged nine lead changes in seven minutes before Perry and the Falcons took off on a 17-3 run down the final three and a half minutes, while forcing Regis into six turnovers down the same stretch. Perry downed 15 of Air Force's last 17 points – With Regis only scoring 19 as a team - to close the half with 24 and leave Air Force with a 48-37 advantage at halftime.
Coming out of the locker room, the Air Force defense clamped down on Regis, forcing the Rangers into four turnovers and a 16-5 scoring deficit before the under-five media timeout. O'Hollaren took over the final minutes of the quarter, opening a 10-point outburst from a driving play set up on an inside pass from senior Jo Huntimer and earning a 29-point lead over the Rangers.
94 points in a contest is the most Air Force has scored since they downed Navy, 90-50, on Nov.11, 2022; Air Force improves to 28-9 all time over the Rangers after earning its fourth-straight win in the series on Monday evening.
