LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Highlighted by freshmen Kori Leverenz and Brooke Coleman debuting on the Air Force Top 10 and junior Javin Bostic setting a new Meet Record, members of the track and field team wrapped up a full day of competition at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate this evening (April 11) in Long Beach.
Leverenz and Coleman had strong outings in the sprints at Jack Rose Track, both debuting on the Academy Top 10 in one event and adding a top-25 time in another. Leverenz tallied the sixth-fastest 200-meter time in program history (24.93) to finish 23rd out of 109 runners – after first debuting in the outdoor record book with a 100-meter time of 12.40 (No. 12), while Coleman accounted for the program's seventh-fastest 100-meter time (12.28) and followed that with a 25.87 finish in the 200-meter dash that matched the No. 21 time in Academy history.
Fellow freshmen Allison Fernstrom and Clara Teigland both impacted the program's all-time standings in the 400-meter hurdles, as Fernstrom recorded a time of 63.31 to move up to No. 15, while Teigland – in just her second meet with the team after joining the program following the women's basketball season – debuted at No. 19 with a time of 64.12.
Junior Taylor Rioux led the Falcons' trio of sprinters in both the 100-meter and 200-meter events, clocking a 12.13 in a windy (+2.8m/s) heat of the 100-meter dash and using a 200-meter time of 24.36 to finish ninth out of 109 runners.
Sophomore Texas Tanner improved his career distance in the discus throw on Thursday, as he recorded a 55.40-meter (181'9") distance to reset his own No. 6 mark – and Sophomore Class Record – in the Air Force Record Book. Tanner, who finished 11th in the 60-thrower field, was one of two Falcons to impact the top-20 of the program's all-time standings during the discus throw, as classmate Massimo Grisotto posted a distance of 53.14 meters (174'4") to move up to No. 17 all-time.
The men's 4x100-meter relay combined for the No. 11 time in program history during a 40.69 finish, while Bostic reset his own Junior Class Record in the 100-meter dash (10.38) to finish third out of 114 runners – and set a new Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Meet Record in the 200-meter dash after posting a time of 20.92 to win the 98-runner event.
In addition to his career-best outing in the discus throw, Tanner was the top collegiate finisher in the hammer throw (71.14 meters, 233'4") and recorded a top-10 placement in the 56-thrower shot put (17.44 meters, 57'2¾"). Tanner, who finished just off his own program standard to take second overall in the hammer (36 total throwers), was one of two Falcons to finish within the top 10, as junior Cooper Stroka tallied a distance of 61.80 meters (202'9") to finish ninth.
Freshman Devin Jordan recorded a career-best clearance of 2.01 meters (6'7") to tie for fifth in the 41-competitor high jump, while senior Alexxis Brown picked up a top-10 finish in the javelin throw after posting a season-best distance of 43.02 meters (141'1").
Back on the track, sophomore Jettason Rose helped Air Force to a pair of top-five finishes in the 98-sprinter 200-meter dash, as he clocked a 21.37 under -2.2m/s conditions to finish fifth – shortly after collecting a top-25 finish in the 100-meter dash (10.60, 23rd of 114). The men added two more top-10 finishers on Thursday, as senior Philip Hundl and junior Darek Hackett finished eighth (14.11) and ninth (14.13), respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles under windy conditions (+3.5m/s).
Results for the women's pole vault have not been finalized and will be included in tomorrow's recap.
