LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Headlined by a strong day of sprinting from junior Taylor Rioux, freshman Brooke Coleman and classmate Kori Leverenz, members of the Air Force track and field team wrapped up competition at the Beach Invitational on Saturday (April 13) in Long Beach.
Clocking a time of 54.70, Rioux became just the third Falcon in program history to run a sub-55 outdoors in the 400-meter dash. Rioux, who moved up to No. 3 on the Academy's all-time standings with that performance, was one of two sprinters to impact the Air Force Top 10 in that event, as Leverenz accounted for the ninth-fastest time in program history during a 56.14 outing. With those times, Rioux and Leverenz finished fourth and 10th, respectively, in the full 49-runner field.
Like Rioux, Coleman also took over a No. 3 spot in the Academy Record Book on Saturday, as she clocked a career-best 12.13 in the 100-meter dash. Knocking 0.15 seconds off her previous best (set Thursday), Coleman matched the time that Morgan Malone first set in 2015 and broke a long-standing Air Force Freshman Class Record – deleting 0.12 seconds from a record that Apryl Ford had held since 1980.
On the men's side, freshman Devin Jordan recorded a career-best clearance of 2.06 meters (6'9") to finish fifth out of 35 athletes in the high jump and debut at No. 19 on the Academy's all-time standings. He was one of two top-10 finishers for the Falcons from the field events, as sophomore Texas Tanner recorded a distance of 17.95 meters (58'10¾") to finish seventh out of 74 athletes in the shot put – and finished just outside the top 10 (13th – 54.40 meters, 178'5") in a discus field that included more than 90 throwers.
Back on the track, junior Javin Bostic accounted for the fastest all-condition 100-meter time in Academy history, when he clocked in at 10.14, under blustery conditions and +5.5 m/s wind, to finish sixth out of 90 runners. The junior, who teamed up with sophomore Jettason Rose, senior Jackson Connelly and freshman Jace Martin for a fifth-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay (40.81), earned another top-10 placement in the 200-meter dash, as he and Rose finished sixth (20.90, +3.8) and 10th (21.30, +2.3), respectively, out of 57 sprinters. Senior Philip Hundl rounded out the Falcons' list of top-10 finishers, as he posted a fourth-place time of 14.15 (+2.6) in the 110-meter hurdles.
The Falcons return to Colorado next week (April 19-20), as they head to Golden for the Kit Mayer Classic.
