AZUSA, Calif. -- Backed by updates to the Academy's all-time standings from senior Rebecca Wusinich and freshman Clara Teigland, a small contingent of Air Force track athletes wrapped up action at the Bryan Clay Invitational late Saturday (April 13) in Azusa.
Battling on-and-off rainstorms that puddled the track during the opening races, six Falcon took part in the 1500-meter showcase at Cougar Stadium. Wusinich, competing in the "A" section, clocked a career-best time of 4:32.62 to move up to No. 22 on the Academy's all-time standings. Classmates Rachael Crytser (A section, 4:36.75) and Ava Gilliana (B section, 5:33.80) competed in their first 1500-meter events in more than a year, with Gilliana earning a top-20 finish in her 133-runner section. On the men's side, fellow senior Sean Maison – running in the Invitational section, made his 2024 outdoor debut with a time of 3:49.94, while the sophomore duo of Ethan Ashley (3:51.14) and Ben Scheller (3:52.82) both clocked career-best times in their A section races.
Earlier in the day, Teigland moved up to No. 19 on the all-time standings of the women's 400-meter hurdles, following a career-best time of 63.67, while junior Cameron Breier clocked a season-best time of 51.42 – a mark just shy of his PR – to finish sixth out of 54 athletes in the men's hurdle event.
The Falcons return to Colorado next week (April 19-20), as they head to Golden for the Kit Mayer Classic.
