COLUMBIA, Mo. – Headlined by three top-25 finishes, the air Force women's cross country team had a stellar outing at the Gans Creek Invitational this morning (Sept. 27) in Columbia – finishing seventh in a 38-team field that included several nationally-ranked teams.
Senior Halle Hamilton paced the Falcons around the Gans Creek Cross Country Course – posting a 6K time of 20:30.7 to finish 20th in the 329-runner event. Classmate Ally Peterson placed 23rd with a 20:34.5 finish, while junior India Jones posted a time of 20:35.3 to finish two spots back and round out the Falcons' list of top-25 finishers. Senior Tiaree Towler added a top-50 finish to the Falcons' lineup, after finishing 48th with a time of 21:01.2, while sophomore Ella Johnson rounded out the scoring finishers with an 82nd-place time of 21:27.3.
"The women all around had a strong run," head cross country coach Laura Bowerman said. "Our upperclassmen demonstrated poise as they worked together, navigating the first 2k. Today was encouraging and a good experience as we continue to develop this season."
The Falcons tallied 189 points to finish seventh overall – the second-best finish by an unranked squad – in a field that included three of the nation's top-10 teams.
Three other Falcons also competed today, as sophomore Liliane Aittama (117th, 21:46.0), classmate Anna Harden (123rd, 21:48.0) and junior Ricky Fetterolf (153rd, 22:04.2) all placed within the top half of the overall field.
The women are back in action next Saturday (Oct. 5), when several runners compete on the familiar trails of Monument Valley Pak for the Ted Castaneda Classic , hosted by Colorado College, in Colorado Springs.
