The Air Force volleyball team returns to Colorado this week to face its long-time, in-state opponents from Denver and Northern Colorado. The Falcons will host the Pioneers at Cadet East Gym on Tuesday, Sept. 10, before heading to Denver for a rematch at Hamilton Gym on Thursday, Sept. 12. Following the home-and-home series with the Pioneers – with the latter being the opening match of the Mile High Classic, Air Force wil face Northern Colorado for a neutral site match in Denver on Friday, Sept. 13.
MATCH INFORMATION
Air Force's home contest with Denver will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network and MW App (available on Android, iOS, Apple TV, Roku, and Android TV), while the road match at DU will be streamed on the Summit League Network. Live stats will be available for all three matches and direct links can be found on Air Force's schedule page at GoAirForceFalcons.com.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Denver is currently 3-2 on the year, following a perfect weekend over Montana State (3-2) and The Citadel (3-1) at the Husker Invitational in Nebraska. Norther Colorado, who will travel to Colorado prior to its meeting with the Falcons, is 5-2 after two weekends of play and a schedule that featured opponents from Michigan State (3-1 win), Colorado State (3-1 win) and Ole Miss (3-2 win, 0-3 loss) and No. 11 Florida (1-3 loss).
BY THE NUMBERS
This week features the Falcons' two longest-tenured non-conference opponents in Denver (51 matches, first meeting 1983) and Northern Colorado (67 matches, first meeting 1979). Air Force is 36-15 all-time against Denver, although the Pioneers hold a 13-7 advantage at the Division I level. Northern Colorado leads the Falcons by a 54-13 advantage – a mark that includes a 10-0 record in Division I. This will be the first time since 1997 that the two I-25 teams have played more than once in the same season, while Air Force hasn't faced UNC on a neutral court since 1986.
