
Air Force Overtaken By Nevada In A Tough 68-62 Setback

RENO, Nevada - Air Force men's basketball dropped a 68-62 contest at Nevada (9-7, 1-4 MW) in Mountain West play on Tuesday Night at Lawlor Events Center. Senior Ethan Taylor led the Falcons with 22 points.
The Falcons were unable to protect a four-point lead with under five minutes to play as the Wolf Pack closed with a 12-2 run to escape with the win.
Leading 60-56 with 4:38 to play, Nevada went on a 10-0 run to jump ahead 66-60. Kyle Marshall scored a bucket with 17 seconds left pull the Falcons to within four, but Nevada iced the game with two free throws with 11 seconds left. Kobe Sanders scored the bucket that put the Pack ahead for good at the 2:36 mark.
The loss overshadowed a defensive effort that forced eight steals and the Falcons fighting back when Nevada tried to take control of the game.
Taylor and Marshall had big nights for the Falcons, combining for 34 points. Taylor was the first Falcon to surpass 20 points in a MW game this season, knocking down five three's on the night. He also added six rebounds and three steals.
Marshall scored 12 points and had career-high's of eight rebounds, five assists and four steals. Marshall got to the free throw line eight times, making seven.
Senior Jeffrey Mills, playing his 100th career game, scored nine points and had three assists. Freshman Sam Springer led the bench with five points.
Playing standout defense and hitting its three's, Air Force took a 35-33 halftime lead. The Falcons had six steals in the first half and knocked down 50 percent from three, good for 6 of 12 attempts.
Air Force led by as many as 11 in the opening half. Nevada tied the game up with a 10-0 run right before the half. A pair of free throws by Marshall gave the Falcons the halftime lead.
Nevada came out to start the second half with a 7-1 run to jump ahead by four. The Wolf Pack got up by five with 10:41 to play and seemed poised to pull away. The Falcons fought back and re-took the lead just minutes later with a 9-0 run to go up four with 8:08 to play. Air Force and Nevada traded buckets over the next couple of minutes, before the Wolf Pack went on the 10-0 run.
Air Force returns to action Friday, Jan. 17, at Fresno State. Tip time is slated for 7 pm PT at Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif., with the game slated to be streamed on the MWN.
