Falcons at a Glance:
Junior Milahnie Perry and senior Madison Smith both lead Falcon scoring, averaging 16.3 and 14.3 points, ranking fifth and seventh against the Mountain West, respectively. 29.7 combined points per game for Perry/Smith currently stands as the second-highest scoring duo in the league, just behind New Mexico's Viane Cumber/Destinee Hooks.
Sophomore Jayda McNabb, while also averaging 7.8 points per game, leads Air Force in rebounding, averaging 7.9 (4.3 OFF/G, 3.6 DEF/G), the fourth-highest mark in the Mountain West. McNabb's 4.3 offensive rebounds per game currently ranks 16th nationally and leads Mountain West competitors, while only being one of only two players in the country shorter than 6'0" averaging as many offensive boards per game.
Senior point guard Jo Huntimer's 3.8 assists per game and 2.24 assist/turnover ratio both rank second in the Mountain West.Defensively, the Falcons top the Mountain West in turnovers forced per game (22.59, 20th nationally), turnover margin (+6.94, 21st nationally) and steals per game (12.4, 18th nationally). Madison Smith, sporting 45 steals on the season, leads the Mountain West. Three of Air Force's starting five (Smith, Huntimer, McNabb) rank top eight in steals against the Mountain West; No other program has more than one.
A Cool Grand:
Combining for 53 points at San Jose State (Jan. 11), Smith and Perry both eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for their respective careers, becoming the 19th and 20th players to do so in Air Force history, and the fourth-such duo to collectively claim the honor in the same season.
Service Before Self:
Jo Huntimer leads Air Force in total assists (65.), while currently sporting the second-best assist average in the Mountain West (3.8). 336 career assists currently ranks second in Air Force DI history and sixth all-time (Briana Autrey-Thompson, 2018-22) - a spot in the record books secured in the Falcons' win over Milwaukee on Nov. 28 in Puerto Rico.
Winning Trends:
In all 10 wins this season, Air Force has:
- Held opponents to less than 70 points (14 consecutive wins);
- Forced more turnovers than opponents (15 consecutive wins);
- Scored more points off of turnovers than opponents;
- Led in the game with five minutes to go (57 consecutive wins in regulation).
Air Force is Undefeated When...
- Out-rebounding opponents (3-0);
- Scoring more second chance points than opponents (8- 0).
- Leading home opponents at halftime (5-0);
- Scoring 70 or more in Clune (5-0);
Out-shooting home opponents from the field (3-0) and from three-point range (4-0).
Completing the Mission:
Since Dec. 21, 2021, Air Force has only lost two games after holding a lead with five minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Both losses took place in overtime, falling that day in double overtime at UTEP, and dropping a 57-51 contest to Army at West Point on Nov. 15 of this season.
Not including overtime games, Air Force has won 57 consecutive contests ending in regulation after holding a lead at the five-minute mark in the fourth quarter.
An Even Dozen:
Air Force has at least 12 steals in 12 of 17 games in 2024-25. The Falcons' streak of six-straight contests with 12 or more takeaways to open 2024-25 was the longest active streak in Division I at the time.
A Historic Start:
Air Force opened Mountain West play in 2024-25 at 10-2, marking its first ever 10-win non-conference in Air Force's Division I history and the first such occurrence since the 1991-92 season. Starting 9-1 on the year with just an overtime loss at Army (Nov. 15), Air Force got off to its best ten-game start since Maj. Danny Fowler's 1982-83 Falcons went 12-1. The Falcons opened 6-0 in Clune Arena for the first time since 1985-86, when Air Force started at home with seven-straight wins.
Last Time Out:
Air Force Women's Basketball, taking on the three-time standing Mountain West Champion UNLV Rebels on Wednesday night in Las Vegas, left Cox Pavilion with plenty of positives under their belt, but ultimately fell, 84-51, to the Rebels.
Junior Milahnie Perry led Falcon scoring, earning 12 points (5-12 FG, 2-2 FT, 3 REB, 4 AST) on the evening; Sophomore Alexis Cortez followed up, adding 10 (5-10 FG, 2 REB, 1 AST).
Air Force found itself in an early hole, as the Falcons opened 0-5 and closed the first quarter just 2-12 from the field, allowing UNLV to break off an early 8-0 run to open the game, including a quick six for Rebel guard Amarachi Kimpson. An O'Hollaren jumper at the 5:26 mark – followed by a floater for the sophomore from near the free throw line - got Air Force on the scoreboard but proved the Falcons' only field goals of the quarter, as Air Force trailed 16-5 after one.
Falcon scoring found a rhythm in the second and shot one of the most efficient quarters of its season to date putting up 18 points on 57 percent shooting, but Air Force struggled to stall UNLV's guard-heavy lineup, as the Rebels shot 55 percent (11-20) for the period and a 7-1 advantage on the offensive glass for the second half to inflate UNLV's halftime lead to 42-23.
Returning from halftime, Air Force continued to have their way at the UNLV rim, going 6-11 in the third quarter and knocking down 45 percent from three-point range. The Falcons shot 71 percent from the field (5-7) leading into the under-five third-quarter timeout and 55 percent for the duration of the third quarter, as Cortez went 4-5 to total eight points, but could not gain ground on the Rebels, still trailing 58-38 entering the final quarter, where Air Force was ultimately outscored 26-13.
