Falcons at a Glance:
Junior Milahnie Perry and senior Madison Smith both lead Falcon scoring, averaging 16.4 and 14.2 points, ranking fifth and eighth against the Mountain West, respectively. 30.6 combined points per game for Perry/Smith currently stands as the second-highest scoring duo in the league, just behind New Mexico's Viane Cumber/Destinee Hooks.
Sophomore Jayda McNabb, while also averaging 7.6 points per game, leads Air Force in rebounding, averaging 7.8 (4.3 OFF/G, 3.6 DEF/G), the fourth-highest mark in the Mountain West. McNabb's 4.3 offensive rebounds per game currently ranks 15th nationally and leads Mountain West competitors, while only being one of only two players in the country shorter than 6'0" averaging as many offensive boards per game.
Senior point guard Jo Huntimer's 3.9 assists per game and 2.41 assist/turnover ratio both rank second in the Mountain West.
Defensively, the Falcons top the Mountain West in turnovers forced per game (22.83, 15th nationally), turnover margin (+7.33, 19th nationally) and steals per game (12.4, 14th nationally). Madison Smith, sporting 46 steals on the season, leads the Mountain West. Three of Air Force's starting five (Smith, Huntimer, McNabb) rank top eight in steals against the Mountain West; No other program has more than one.
A Historic Start:
Air Force opened Mountain West play in 2024-25 at 10-2, marking its first ever 10-win non-conference in Air Force's Division I history and the first such occurrence since the 1991-92 season. Starting 9-1 on the year with just an overtime loss at Army (Nov. 15), Air Force got off to its best ten-game start since Maj. Danny Fowler's 1982-83 Falcons went 12-1. The Falcons opened 6-0 in Clune Arena for the first time since 1985-86, when Air Force started at home with seven-straight wins.
A Cool Grand:
Combining for 53 points at San Jose State (Jan. 11), Smith and Perry both eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for their respective careers, becoming the 19th and 20th players to do so in Air Force history, and the fourth-such duo to collectively claim the honor in the same season.
Service Before Self:
Jo Huntimer leads Air Force in total assists (70), while currently sporting the second-best assist average in the Mountain West (3.9). 341 career assists currently ranks second in Air Force DI history and sixth all-time (Briana Autrey-Thompson, 2018-22) - a spot in the record books secured in the Falcons' win over Milwaukee on Nov. 28 in Puerto Rico.
Winning Trends:
In all 11 of the Falcons' wins this season, Air Force has:
- Held opponents to less than 70 points (15 consecutive wins);
- Forced more turnovers than opponents (16 consecutive wins);
- Scored more points off of turnovers than opponents;
- Led in the game with five minutes to go (58 consecutive wins in regulation).
Air Force is Undefeated When...
- Out-rebounding opponents (4-0);
- Scoring more second chance points than opponents (9- 0).
- Leading home opponents at halftime (6-0);
- Scoring 70 or more in Clune (5-0);
Out-shooting home opponents from the field (4-0) and from three-point range (5-0).
Completing the Mission:
Since Dec. 21, 2021, Air Force has only lost two games after holding a lead with five minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Both losses took place in overtime, falling that day in double overtime at UTEP, and dropping a 57-51 contest to Army at West Point on Nov. 15 of this season.
Not including overtime games, Air Force has won 58 consecutive contests ending in regulation after holding a lead at the five-minute mark in the fourth quarter.
An Even Dozen:
Air Force has at least 12 steals in 13 of 18 games in 2024-25. The Falcons' streak of six-straight contests with 12 or more takeaways to open 2024-25 was the longest active streak in Division I at the time.
Last Time Out:
Air Force Women's Basketball, in search of a foothold in the Mountain West and intent on shaking off a five-game skid to open Mountain West play, dominated on both ends of the floor on Saturday afternoon, taking down Fresno State, 65-36, while snapping the Bulldogs' three-game win streak along the way.
Junior Milahnie Perry led all scoring in the game with 17 points (7- 12 FG, 2-4 3FG, 2 REB, 4 AST, 2 STL); Senior Madison Smith logged 11 (4-9 FG, 3 REB, 2 AST, 1 STL), and sophomore Jordyn Devaughn added 10 of her own and a career-best seven rebounds; Sophomore Alexis Cortez finished the evening with four points and nine boards, matching her career high.
The Bulldogs spent the entirety of Saturday's contest contending with Air Force's defense, as the Falcons forced Fresno State into a season-high in turnovers (27) and steals (14), while also holding them to their lowest outputs this year in points (36), field goals made (12), and field goal attempts (43). Two of Fresno State's starting five (Maria Konstantinidou, Saga Ukkonen) were held scoreless in the game, while combining for 0-9 shooting from the field. Junior forward Mia Jacobs, who holds the highest scoring average against Mountain West opponents to this point, was held to a season low six points on the day. 36 points for Fresno State is the Bulldogs' lowest single-game scoring output since being held to 36 by Grand Canyon on Nov. 24 of last season and 35 against UNLV in the 2024 Mountain West quarterfinals.
Air Force took an early command over the Bulldogs which held throughout the afternoon. The Falcons got out to a 19-6 lead after a 9-0 run and six first-quarter Bulldog turnovers. Air Force managed Fresno State's field goal opportunities, holding FSU to 1-9 shooting to start the game. The Falcons, now 4-0 in games out-rebounding opponents this year, held a 13-4 advantage over Fresno State on the glass, as Adams and Cortez combined for nine boards in the first quarter. Six Falcons found baskets in the opening frame, with Adams' six leading the pack.
The Falcon offense cooled off in the second quarter, totaling just eight points on three baskets, but Air Force continued to impose its will defensively, forcing nine steals and 11 Fresno State turnovers, stifling the Bulldogs' response to their deficit. Air Force grew its lead to as much as 17 points in the second and led 27-14 at half.
With a sizable lead in hand, the Falcons put up their most efficient shooting performance in the third quarter, as Air Force shot 49 percent from the field and an even 50 percent (3-6) from three-point range to expand their lead. Perry and Smith, both combining for just eight points in the first half, added seven and five apiece on the way to a 21-point advantage entering the final quarter, where Perry, earning eight points in the final quarter, nearly matched the Bulldogs' scoring as a team to close the game (nine), leading to an eventual 65-36 Falcon win.
