U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – RIT's Matthew Wilde scored with 26 seconds left in the game for a 2-1 win over Air Force in an Atlantic Hockey America game, Friday, Jan. 31, at the Cadet Ice Arena.
In the first 40 seconds of the game, RIT (6-21-1, 5-13-1 AHA) had three shots on goal, but Falcon goalie Guy Blessing kept his net clean. Air Force then had the next nine shots on goal, but Tiger goalie Jakub Krbecek made all nine saves. Midway through the period, Austin Schwartz collected a loose puck in the neutral zone and created on a 2-on-1 with Will Dawson. Schwartz scored his eighth of the season, unassisted, with a wrister from the right circle at 10:45.
Early in the second period, RIT tied the game. After a Falcon turnover behind the net, Simon Isabelle set up Tanner Andrew in front to tie the game at 1-1 at 4:53 of the second.
The game remained tied at 1-1 until late in the third period. Christian Catalano skated out from behind the net for a wraparound chance. His shot was saved but Wilde put back the rebound for the game-winner.
Air Force outshot RIT, 35-29. Air Force was 0-for-4 on the power play and killed both of RIT's chances. Krbecek made 34 saves for the Tigers while Blessing made 27.
"We gave them some really good chances, but Blessing was terrific," head coach Frank Serratore said. "We are just not very well connected right now. Our power play was 0-for-4 and we only scored one goal, you aren't going to win very many games like that especially with how porous we were. We have to play better, that's the bottom line."
Air Force (11-17-1, 8-11-0 AHA) and RIT conclude the two-game series on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 5:05 pm MT at the Cadet Ice Arena.
