U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. --- Air Force junior Carter Clafton made a career-high 58 saves as the Falcons tied fifth-ranked Denver, 1-1 in overtime, Friday, Oct. 10, at a sold out Cadet Ice Arena. Clafton's 58 saves are the most by an Air Force goalie in the conference era (since 1999). The school record for saves in a game is 64 by Dave Spannbauer vs. Lake Forest, Nov. 15, 1975.
Air Force (0-0-1) took a 1-0 lead at 16:44 as Will Dawson scored from the slot with assists to Nick Sajevic and Will Staring. The Falcons clung to the lead until late in the third period when Clarke Caswell scored right in front at 15:53.
Denver (0-0-1) won the shootout, 2-1, on goals by Kyle Chyzowski and Sam Harris and two saves by Quentin Miller. Denver outshot Air Force, 59-24. DU was 0-for-2 on the power play while Air Force was 0-for-3.
Air Force returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 5:05 pm MT in the battle for the Pikes Peak Trophy against the Colorado College Tigers.
