ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT scored two goals early in the first period for a 5-1 win over Air Force, in an Atlantic Hockey America game Friday, Oct. 24, at the  Gene Polisseni Center in Rochester, N.Y.
RIT (2-2-0, 1-2-0 AHA) took the early lead when Tyler Mahan scored from Simon Isabelle and Crossley Stewart just 4:33 into the game. The Tigers took a two-goal lead when Phillippe Jacques redirected a shot by Adam Jeffrey at 9:45. Air Force (1-3-1, 0-1-0 AHA) cut the Tiger lead in half when freshman Aidan Willis won a faceoff and junior Brendan Gibbons scored with a blast from the top of the left circle at 17:14.
The Tigers added a pair of goals in the second period as Christian Catalano scored on the power play at 2:49 and Mahan scored his second of the game at 10:08. RIT's Evan Konyen rounded out the scoring with an empty-netter with 2:17 remaining.
RIT outshot Air Force, 28-23. RIT was 1-for-4 on the power play while Air Force was 0-for-3. Jakub Krbecek made 21 saves . Carter Clafton started for Air Force and made four saves on 13 shots in 30 minutes. Junior Dominik Wasik entered the game in the second period and stopped all 14 shots he faced over 27 minutes.
"We didn't establish a physical presence early," head coach Frank Serratore said. "We didn't get enough pucks to the net through the first two periods. Nine shots after two periods is not enough. In the third period, we had a little push, but it was too little too late. We played with more of a sense of urgency, but we were already down 4-1. In order to win, you have to deserve to win and we didn't deserve to win."
The Falcons and Tigers conclude the two-game league series on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 5:05 pm ET in Rochester, N.Y.
