WEST POINT, N.Y. – Six different Falcons scored as Air Force beat Army, 6-3, in an Atlantic Hockey America game Friday, Nov. 21, at Tate Rink in West Point, N.Y. Eleven different Falcons had a point in the game as the Falcons earned three points in the conference standings.
After a scoreless first period, the teams erupted for five combined goals in the second period. Air Force (6-6-1, 3-4-0 AHA) opened the scoring on Will Dawson's fourth goal of the season. Nick Sajevic sent a puck up the ice and Holt Oliphant's shot was saved. Dawson cleaned up the rebound at 4:29. Army tied the game on the power play as Jack Ivey scored at 6:25. After Will Staring drew a penalty, the Falcons regained the lead on the power play as Anthony Yu scored his first of the season at 13:34. Aidan Willis made a cross-ice pass and Yu's one-timer from the left circle gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead. With 39 seconds left in the second period, Nick Remissong's first of the season gave the Falcons a 3-1 lead. Brendan Gibbons shot was blocked but went right to Remissong on the back door. Army answered again on the rush as Brock Jones scored with 16 seconds left.
The Falcons opened the third period with a pair of goals for a 5-2 lead. Just 2:16 into the third, Mason McCormick won a faceoff in the offensive zone and Jake Peterson sent a puck wide of the net. Holt Oliphant scored his third of the season on the back door for a 4-2 lead. Some nifty passing between Brendan Gibbons and Nick Remissong set up Chris Hedden for a goal from the left circle at 3:35. Army responded with a goal by Barron Woodring at 4:21 to cut the Falcon lead to 5-3. Sam Stitz netted his fourth of the season on a one-timer from Nick Sajevic for a 6-3 advantage. The play started with a blocked shot by Dawson in his own end, his fifth blocked shot of the game.
Air Force outshot Army, 39-24, in the game. Each team was 1-for-3 on the power play. Dominik Wasik made 21 saves for the Falcons. J.J. Cataldo had 33 for the Black Knights.
"The big moments in the game belonged to us," head coach Frank Serratore said. "I liked out energy and the better team won tonight. We played with the lead the whole game and Wasik came up with some sneaky big saves when we needed him.  We bent a little, but didn't  break. That goal they scored late in the second period was huge for them, but we came out and scored two quick goals in the third. It is nice to get this one in our pocket heading into tomorrow."
Air Force and Army (3-6-3, 1-6-2 AHA) conclude the two-game league series Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7:05 pm ET in West Point, N.Y.
