USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- Headlined by a career-high 22 kills from senior Ashley Bible, the Air Force volleyball team downed Fresno State this afternoon (Nov. 8) at the Academy. With the 25-13, 25-27, 25-20, 25-22 victory, the Falcons improved to 14-12 (6-8 MW) on the year and claimed just their third season sweep of the Bulldogs as conference opponents.
Accounting for her third 20-kill performance of the year, Bible was nearly unstoppable on Saturday – tallying just three errors on 41 swings during her match-high 22-kill outing for a season-high .463 performance. The senior also recorded one of the team's seven aces and tallied a team-high 12 digs for her seventh double-double of the year.
Sophomore Alysa Walker also had a strong afternoon at Cadet East Gym with 19 kills, one ace and nine digs, while classmate Grace Fiaseu added seven kills on .462 hitting (7-1-13) to help Air Force to its best hitting of the conference season (.326) – and second-highest performance of the year. Fiaseu, who also served up an ace, led the Falcons with five blocks (all assisted), while freshman Sam Pope recorded a pair of aces and the first 30-assist match of her career (31) to round out the Falcons' list of stat leaders.
The Falcons rolled out to a fast 10-4 start, with Bible (three kills) and Fiaseu (two kills, block with freshman Sonia Okpara, block with Brooksie Isham) combined seven points in that early run. Four-straight kills from Bible quickly turned a four-point Air Force lead (14-10) into an eight-point advantage for the Falcons (18-10). Walker (two kills) and Bible (kill, ace) continued to extend Air Force's lead, while a solo block from senior Alex Hatchett and an ace from Pope closed out the Falcons' easy 25-13 win.
Fresno State and Air Force traded points in the opening minutes of the second set, with Fiaseu helping to tie the set at four (kill) and six (block with Isham). Two kills from Walker, as well as strikes from Bible and Okpara, led to a tie at 11-all, while two kills and a block from Fiaseu (assisted with Isham) gave Air Force its first lead at the 15-14 mark. Air Force pushed their lead to three (18-15, 19-16) behind three kills from Walker, but the Bulldogs responded with six of the next seven points to retake the lead at 21-20. The Falcons grabbed the lead back with a Fiaseu/Bible block (22-21), but Fresno State was able to overcome two points and earn the deciding two scores for the 27-25 win.
Kills from Hatchett (two), Walker, Bible and Okpara sparked a 5-1 start to the third, while another strike from the sophomore in that quartet helped the Falcons double-up the Bulldogs at 10-5. Air Force pushed its advantage out to seven (14-7) behind three Bible kills and an ace from senior Jordan Suan, but Fresno State quickly pulled within one at the 15-14 mark. The teams traded the next four scores, before Hatchett and Walker used a three-point run to break the back-and-forth action. The senior added one more kill, while a kill from Bible secured the Falcons' 25-20 victory.
Air Force again took an early lead in the fourth, as multiple kills from Walker and Bible, as well as an ace from sophomore Mia Loyd, gave Air Force a 7-4 lead. A kill from Isham pushed their lead to four (10-6), while a strike from Okpara advanced the lead to five (12-7). Pope served up another ace and the Falcons earned kills from Walker, Bible, Fiaseu and Okpara, but Fresno State raced back to tie the set at 17. Bible broke that tie, while back-to-back kills from Walker unlocked an 18-all score. The sophomore added one more kill, while strikes from Hatchett and Bible helped Air Force close out the match with a 25-22 win.
With today's win and a 3-1 victory in Fresno earlier this season, Air Force swept its season series with the Bulldogs for just the third time in program history (2017, 2023).
The Falcons remain at the Academy next week, as they close out the home portion of the 2025 campaign against conference newcomer Grand Canyon on Nov. 13, and New Mexico on Nov. 15.
